5.0 out of 5 stars❤❤❤ Beatrix and Norman ❤❤
Reviewed in the United States on May 7, 2020
All the stars! A train robbery, a scientist with an unusual personality, a singularly unique lady with a mind of her own, and a pistol purse make for one of the most difficult and funny meetings I've read. Beatrix and Norman did not get off to the best start but they do have an entertaining story.
Beatrix is most often annoyed with Norman and he is most often distracted by her. I loved their bickering and the electrical spark between them.
Aunt Gladys and her group of reformed women are a hoot! Oh, and the cats!
I enjoyed all the side stories throughout the book in addition to the main subjects. Theodosia especially.
It was fun to see the brief reappearance of Izzy, Poppy, and Murray (Wilbur too.)
The epilogue is a wonderful end to this story and the series.
Once again, Jen Turano has given me a great story to enjoy over and over.

3.0 out of 5 starsInconsistent ending but charming story
Reviewed in the United States on January 24, 2021
I'm not really sure what happened with the ending of this book, but the last chapter and epilogue were completely haphazard and not consistent with the rest of the story. It's as if the author didn't even write them and someone was just doing a long winded wrap up of the plot. I
The rest of the book was a typical Jen Turano story with silly antics & blunders with the main characters falling in love, having a misunderstanding, calling it quits, making up, and then getting married. But this was better done with a more unusual circumstance behind the misunderstanding. The ending was too rushed and didn't feel like part of the story at all. Just someone trying to quickly wrap up the p!ot to get it off to the publisher on short notice. Jen Turano is a good writer and needs to be allowed to write a full story.

5.0 out of 5 stars Funny, clean, & worth reading all her books

I love books from this author! I’m not gonna tell you what happened when you can read the overview yourself. But I can say I am becoming totally bored w/ depressing war, death, sex (or it seems the characters can’t think beyond that🙄) or they fall in ♥️ at 1st sight. Gag!
I need comedy! Laughter! Maybe we know they are going to end up together (why else do we read them??) but doing silly/embarrassing things like normal people do make it real. Slap some facial expressions in it & add some sarcasm.
These are clean, funny, & actually have a plot! It’s a rarity these days in books, tv, or movies. Add this lady to your list to keep up w/ all her books! It’s hard to find good ones.

5.0 out of 5 stars A FANTASTIC Conclusion to a GREAT Series!!! I love this book!!!

Storing Up Trouble by Jen Turano is fantastic. I know I say this about all the novels I love, but I really did struggle to put this book down. In fact, I stayed up until 2 AM the other night to finish it. I just enjoyed this book so much — it was exactly the novel I needed. Life has been a tad painful and insane lately, so I purposely picked up this book because I know that Turano novels are guaranteed to be light-hearted, hilarious, and romantic. Turano stories are the perfect books to escape into, and Storing Up Trouble proved to be just the medicine I needed at this time.

I really did love everything about this novel — the romance builds slowly, realistically, and so sweetly, and the humor is perfect. I laughed out loud several times and forced my husband to listen as I read several passages to him so he could laugh too! I also thoroughly enjoyed the bit of mystery and the several “street brawls” that broke out. Watching Norman ride to Beatrix’s rescue several times are some of the best moments in the book. Norman is my absolute favorite character. He stole my reader's heart the moment he attempted to save Beatrix from her “crazy” aunt. I appreciate Norman’s journey from arrogant, self-centered scientist to selfless, considerate knight-in-shining-armor. I love how his friendship with his best friend, Theodosia, went from something he used to something he cherished and learned to appreciate. And, I love, love, love that Beatrix is the catalyst to Norman’s character transformation. Because isn’t it the truth — when we find our “one” on this earth we really do want to become the best version of ourselves that we possibly can. Every page of this novel is superb storytelling, but for me, Norman is what made Storing Up Trouble the best story in the American Heiresses series.

I have enjoyed every novel in the American Heiresses series, but Storing Up Trouble is my favorite and I highly recommend it. It’s well written, it’s highly engaging, it’s sweet and romantic, and it’s absolutely hilarious. If you are in the need for a historical romance to escape into, then purchase a copy of Storing Up Trouble. You will love every minute of this one!

I purchased a copy of this novel in eBook form from Amazon.com on May 4, 2020, in order to review. In no way has this influenced my review. The opinions expressed in this review are my own.

4.0 out of 5 stars So Much Heart and Humor!!

Love Turano's books, they ALWAYS have me smiling and shaking my head and OFTEN have me laughing out loud! Beatrix has been living a fake engagement for quite some time when the gentleman actually does get engaged to someone else, ending her ruse to prevent being pursued for her fortune. Her mom has sent her to live with an eccentric aunt to go forward in life and find true purpose. BEFORE the train ride has even finished, Beatrix finds trouble, stands up to it and barely escapes from it in a clever way. Unfortunately she escapes with Norman Nesbit who thinks he knows best of how to do everything and informs Beatrix being her opinionated self might be why she's unmarried. Little do they know, even as they decide never to see one another again once the threat has passed, their adventure is only beginning.

Without question, Theodosia is my favorite character in this book! Wow did she keep the plot LIVELY with her bad timing, quirky questions and observations, her loyalty to Norman so refreshing, and her honesty in all situations enhancing the story!

Norman is a brilliant yet truly unusual man that Turano actually writes into a hero, not easily done but MOST enjoyable!

Not much clumsiness in this one, but unexpected danger popping up and Aunt Gladys with her eccentric ways as well kept this one so interesting! There is A LOT of dialogue in this one, I'm usually tempted to read through it fast to finish the long chapters, but the dialogue is what keeps the story so adorable with it's dry humor and crazy situations the characters respond to. I think my favorite part of Trouble is that both Beatrix and Norman don't care what society thinks of them, making them the perfect couple as they charge ahead.

"With that, Beatrix shut the door and glided away, not turning back to look at him a single time before she disappeared through her aunt's gate and straight out of his life." I was really disturbed by that scene.

The story is kind of slow for me in the first hundred pages or so, with well over 350 pages, but wow does it pick up BEAUTIFULLY more than once with danger, polite society that is really full of hypocrites, and enlightening me with how women were treated and regarded in the days before the right to vote existed. SO WELL WRITTEN and SO MUCH HEART, which is what can be expected in all of Turano's books, making them a must read for me almost every time :)

There is absolutely NOTHING to dislike about Jen Turano's writing style. I have loved every single book she has written and I have read them ALL! I am always excited to see when she has something new coming out! Her writing style keeps the reader entertained and chuckling. The plots are never dull! The dialog is witty and wonderfully well written. And her cast of characters and their descriptions is nothing short of hilarious. All I can say is, "Keep the fun stories coming! They make my day!"

5.0 out of 5 stars Fun, quirky read

Once again Ms. Turano has given the world a delightful, witty, and entertaining read. I loved the quirky characters. Norman is so delightfully odd and Beatrix was a fun bantering partner. I loved how she would tell it how it was. What a pair. The whole time I was reading I could see the "movie" playing out in my head. Then I described what I was reading to a friend and she said it sounded like it would make a great movie so we had like thoughts on that one. It would be a very fun movie and was indeed a very fun book. Pure enjoyment.

When Beatrix is accosted by a train robber & Norman throttles him, they are then forced to jump off the train, steal the robbers' horses, and make their way through the woods to escape. Back in Chicago they go their separate ways but keep winding up in close proximity and always at odds with each other. There were several points where I laughed out loud, and even though the stilted manner in which they spoke was so aggravating, it was also very entertaining. This is yet another Jen Turano book that I can reccomend.

This series deserves 10 stars. It’s so good! Tremendously funny, exciting from the first pages! Part of a series, but can be read as a stand alone too. Historical romantic comedy in late 1800s America… called the Gilded Age, with heiresses, balls, suitors, thieves, Pinkerton men, Pullman cars, trains and so much more! And clean cozy…such fun!

5.0 out of 5 stars Book remains excellent . Narrator not so good.

The book was excellent. The narrator not so much. At first I thought this book was not up to the usual standards of the author but then I realized it was the narrator that was not so pleasing. When my husband walked in the room And said you can stop listening to that now since the narrator is not pleasing to the ear. Make sure you don’t listen to it when I’m around. Yikes.
