Hilarious, Steamy, and Heart-wrenching

I was lucky enough to read Shelby Mahurin's sequel, B&H, before publication, and it. Delivers. BIG TIME. You liked the witches of S&D?? WELL WELL WELL ... Get ready to meet some of the coolest, most kick a** supernatural beings ever. The blood witches are intensely, aesthetically, hauntingly beautiful. There are so many new magical creatures and French inspired folklore that is just the cherry on top of this wickedly delicious ensemble cast. Seriously, they are so vibrant and fun and cruel. As always.
But Jordan, you say, what about our precious beans? Lou and Coco and Reid and Ansel (and yes, even Beau)-- do not worry. They are back. They are better (and worse) than ever. There is STEAM. There is BANTER. The hilarity continues, and the emotional pay off of the previous book is so so so freaking ripe. Lou returns, snarky as ever, but giving. Unselfish. Loyal (to a fault). And then there’s Reid, Reid who is forced to learn about magic in a new light. Who must confront who he is versus who he was. Their relationship blossoms. It’s hot, it’s beautiful, and I DARE you not to ugly cry at least once in this book.
B&H is part hilarious romp—with quirky theatre troupes and steamy ponds and magic books—and part coming of age story. At its heart, this is a family book. A book that questions what you would sacrifice for those you love, how far you would go to save them. The characters’ journeys are beautifully and intricately woven. They grow, they hurt, they ache, they laugh, and, most of all, they love. I love these characters so much. Never before has a cast felt so real, so visceral, to me. I wanted to hug each and every one of them and never let go. Trust me, you will too.
If you think you’ve seen all there is of our heroes in S&D, think again. Mahurin should teach a masterclass on continuing to deepen characters and expand worlds, while keeping it perfectly accessible and entertaining. Reading Blood & Honey is the best time I’ve had since I put its predecessor down, and I LITERALLY, ABSOLUTELY, CANNOT WAIT FOR THE NEXT ONE!!!!! Seriously. I plan on reading this a thousand more times to soak in the beautiful foreshadowing, the tiny hints, and the sincere(and uproariously funny) moments between this found-and-forced-together-family.
