FIRST CHRISTMAS is a standalone read with a HEA. It could easily fit in the religion and spirituality genre. There is no sex involved or needed. There are not a lot of references to God or being preachy, it is just an uplifting story. A young woman on track to become a very wealthy business executive in New York is on her way home for Christmas to be with her recently widowed mother. She was born and raised in a small town in Virginia. Now, she has risen above all of that country stuff and is an important person in her field. Only problem is all of that is not who she really is. At the airport she is picked up by her ex-boyfriend that checked out of their relationship 12 years ago. She never understood why and she has never forgiven him for what he did. It was an awkward drive home.
Aubrey is engaged to Walter. A bigger tool never lived. He is a total jerk. She doesn't see it. She works for the wicked witch of NYC. She is totally without scruples or a soul. She is wealthy beyond words and her only goal in life is to make more money. She doesn't care who she steps on or how many people she hurts. As long as she comes out on top. Aubrey has put up with her for years because she thinks that is where she wants to be...on top.
Kyle was her high school love. He is a good ole boy and everyone loves him. He is always handy to help out with a cause or need. He is a truly good guy. However, the one things she wants from him he is unable to give her. He will not tell her why he broke things off 12 years ago.
As they get reacquainted old feelings start to show up. Kyle has always loved her and now he is getting a second chance with her. She is slowly starting to see how her life in N.Y. is not the one she really wants. The only thing holding her back is the WHY of so many years ago. There are a lot of little sayings and thoughts to show how one could live their life better and better serve their soul by being the best they can be.
This is an interesting story. I really enjoyed it and definitely recommend it. The whole book they are working their way back to each other. Any age can read and enjoy and probably learn a few things.
I was not paid for this review. I am not a writer nor do I know one. I am not kin to this author. I am a reader and this is my opinion, nothing more, nothing less. 1/6/2020
