Eve is a unique character. Her birth and childhood are sad and sci fi, but she is a real human who finds herself in trouble. Damon/Thanatos has a horrible trauma and is trying to find justice while working with Guardian. This story is action packed and we see most of the other shadows. The rescue mission was extreme and answered a question about a missing shadow. I enjoyed this story, but Eve was a bit annoying. I loved Joy losing her temper and that scene with Eve! Can’t wait for more on Maliki and also on Tempest!

Kris Michaels - Thanatos (Guardian Security Shadow World- Book 4)
Stars: 2
Heat: Hot
Recommend: No

Three weeks ago, I found Kris Michaels's books, and I love them. I am an avid reader and read mostly military romance. I have loved the authors writing style, suspense, and romance. I am happy that I have found a new author.

In less than three (3) weeks, I read all the Guardian Security books, including the spin-offs, which includes Thanatos. I like the character Thanatos. Eve, however, was the worst female heroin that I may have ever read. Eve spent most of her life in the hospital, so she had minimal experience in life, social skills, or anything. Eve is also twenty-seven (27), which limits her experiences, while Thanatos is Forty-Five (45). Eve was whiny, childish, and demanding that Thanatos change. If you love someone, you don't require them to change something about themselves, especially such a big part of Thanantos's past. She is not stable, strong, or brave, like the other female characters in all the previous books that had strong women that could stand beside the strong alpha male and not lose themselves or let the H get away with their sometimes high handed.

All the other women in the series understand that the H is on the 'good side' of humanity and that the monster must be taken down so the world will be a little better place to live. But, not Eve. She believes that it's wrong, and if he wants to be with her, he has to give up his past and never allow Guardian to send him on a mission again. What this means is that Eve has judged Thanatos past life, and he come up short.

Since Eve and Thanatos will live in the complex with other operatives, she will never be able to be friends with the other males and females because they all believe that they are on the right side of the equation. What this means is Eve and Thanatos will be isolated from the group all because Eve refuses to look at the bigger picture. Perhaps the author can fix this in future books. Gosh, I hope so.

2.0 out of 5 stars Let Down
Reviewed in the United States 🇺🇸 on July 22, 2020

I was enjoying this book until about 3/4's through. Eve had been very clear about how she felt about killing. Being told she was dying all her life, made life sacrosanct to her. So when she had a very understandable reaction to a situation (I won't spoil it), it's called a "temper tantrum"! Really??? I know others were put off by her childishness, but frankly I put that down to her basically being sheltered, though in an inhumane way, most of her life. I finished the story and I ended up angry at the author. Characters at the end were attacking the female lead. One calling her a drama queen. Another related Thanatos' backstory, something as far as I can tell he never her told the main female and yet she had zero reaction. This is something that would truly have upset her. One of the other reviews said she shouldn't have asked him to change his job - While I agree in theory, it was kind of a moot point and his job wasn't who he was. A recurring theme among these Shadow Guardians is they all think of themselves as evil. It basically becomes a self-esteem problem for the male leads. I was truly enjoying this series until the last 1/4 of this book. I'll read the next, because I don't believe the author will make the same, what I see as, "mistakes", in future books. If she does this again, I won't read another. So basically I saw a total lack of empathy or understanding, except for a couple characters, for the female lead starting about 3/4's in.

2.0 out of 5 stars Missed the mark with Eve

First and foremost let me say that I sincerely love the Kings of Guardian series and the spin off Shadow series. Kris Michaels is an author that I highly recommend. I too had high hope and great expectations for this book, but it let me down in so many ways. The Character Eve in this book did not fit in at ALL with the previous women from the series. Women many of us really love, a take no bullsh*t, intelligent, strong willed and stand up to and by your man woman. Especially a man who would do everything in his power ( and with these men that is Considerable!) to keep you safe and loved. I understand trying to switch things up a bit to keep the plot and Characters from becoming to stagnant, but this pairing just never worked for me. Talk about polar opposite (and not in a good way). About half way through I kept thinking “no way is this the right woman for Thanatos". Now had Eve been paired with Dr Wheeler I would have found that more believable. Despite how much I truly did not enjoy ( I'm trying to be nice here) the character of Eve she will not stop me from continuing to read the up coming books in the series. Do I recommend this book, that would be a big NO! should you let my opinion stop you, also a no, because even though she is a main character she is not the only character.
Go Joy and Jade ! ( two characters from previous books,I so love those two! )

2.0 out of 5 stars Couldn’t Wait For This One.....

I couldn’t wait for this story. Was seriously excited on release day.Got home from work and after making sure the house, kids and hubby were good I was ready to dive in, and that is just what I did.
Now just to be clear I love reading this author because of the research that goes into creating her stories so I was sooo looking forward to this!
Download the bad boy and begin. 3 chapters in and I’m like ok a slow build up. Chapter 10 and it’s still slloooowwww. Chapter 12 and I’m starting to question why in the hell I was excited to get my hands on the story.
Needless to say by chapter 20 I wasn’t sure if what I felt was revulsion or disgust. Dolan was just no Hero to me and Eve was a stunted child.
I wouldn’t recommend anyone pay for this. A huge disappointment.

2.0 out of 5 stars Really bad editing. Really bad.

This book had one of the most compelling storylines in this series. The characters were a little shallow, but I'd still give the book overall a 4-star rating. BUT. The editing was so poor, I reduced my rating by 2 full stars. If you're someone who easily spots typos and incorrect homonyms, and you *like* finding that in a book, this one's for you. If it chaps your hide, just know that's part of this book. Until it gets fixed (if it does). The next book in the series is a lot, lot better.

2.0 out of 5 stars Just so-so

The narrative is okay, and I liked the characters. The idea for the plot was I intriguing. I feel the writing was sort of clunky. Also, when I come across mistakes, I’m pulled out of the story and into the real world. This author does not know the difference between compliment/complement. She also wrote “per say” rather than the correct “per se.” There are things written later in the book that don’t match up with things written at the beginning. Just so-so.

2.0 out of 5 stars Selfish Heroine

Eve came across as childish and selfish. If you claim to love someone you don't tell them if you want me change who you are. Not if who they are makes the world a safer place. If Eve couldn't love and support all of Thanatos she should have walked away. Once you start demanding a person change for you it will never end. Very disappointed in this book.

I have loved all of Kris Michaels books and characters. I disliked the female character in the beginning and she only got worse as the book went on. Thanatos was a wonderful character and he deserved a female lead with some spine!
