How customer reviews and ratings work

Customer Reviews, including Product Star Ratings help customers to learn more about the product and decide whether it is the right product for them.

To calculate the overall star rating and percentage breakdown by star, we don’t use a simple average. Instead, our system considers things like how recent a review is and if the reviewer bought the item on Amazon. It also analyzed reviews to verify trustworthiness.

4.0 out of 5 starsDeparture from the "formula"
Reviewed in the United States on December 23, 2019
People who read this series only to re-experience the "formula" of the previous books: "Oh no, emergency, wallow in agony, hey here's an idea, Book fixed!" Will not be disappointed, we have a bit of that for the first half. People who are tired of the formula and want the story to move on and do something different, you will REALLY not be disappointed, wow. People who want to know more, have questions answered, etc... there is even a (very) small nod to you at the very end to keep you happy.

That said, if you like the ending, and are not angry/devastated, than I wonder if you actually read the first books? It is good to feel negative things because of the ending. BUT PLEASE!!!! do not direct that anger towards Craig, give him the benefit of the doubt, expect that the next couple books will pick up where this left off, and pay off in the end. IF the next few books do not pay off and he goes Game Of Thrones on us then maybe come back and say "This is where it all went wrong". But for know be thankful that an author has given us a series so good that this book is able to punch you in the gut, that shows how much he has already touched your soul. Recover from the punch, and lets see where it goes!

Then again some people live to complain and be unhappy, no pleasing you in that case... Except Craig did please you! He gave you another place to shout your endless complaints into the void for us to ignore!

2.0 out of 5 starsCliffhanger
Reviewed in the United States on December 20, 2019
I have been reading this series in the hopes that humans would eventually be able to actually develop their own tech. And once again I am let down.

I am also seriously angry about the ending. I would never have read this book had I known beforehand.

In my opinion it’s time to just let this series go by the way side.

2.0 out of 5 stars just disappointed
Reviewed in the United States on December 22, 2019

From the last book I got excited about the next chapter of the merry band of pirates, though this time there be more then ever before seen with their new found power with the valkyrie but I was wrong or I just got to excited for my own good cause I was hoping for more then a few battles and less of the same old skippy and joe thing which starting to get a little redundant since book 6 for me, which i dont mind alot as its skippy and joe working relationship that I think it over now because of the cliffhanger. Oh the cliffhanger on this book making me just wish I had read a review beforehand then I wouldn't be regretting reading this book right now which is why am giving it a 2 the ending just make no sense to me at all

2.0 out of 5 stars Only really half a book with nothing resolved
Reviewed in the United States on December 25, 2019

I've loved this series. Turned many friends to listen to it. Hell, I've even bought merch from his online store! But this book just felt phoned in. First half felt engaged. Second half just felt like filler was put in to try and make it a whole book. Then a GIANT uppercut, and its over.

Now I want to make firm firm statement here. That, I truly admire Craig's work ethic and imagination. I don't know if this is just burn out or what. But I'd be willing to wait longer for a new book if that what was needed to make a more flushed out book.

In my personal opinion if I had known what I know now. I would've waited until book 10 to release before starting this one. I'd highly recommend others do the same also so they dont get the same stomach punch feeling.

To conclude, I'd like to say Iam sad that I had to rate this so low. I wont abandon the series by any means over this. But it is my honest opinion....

2.0 out of 5 stars Kinda fifty-fifty <some spoilers below>
Reviewed in the United States on January 6, 2020

Why fifty-fifty?
The first half of the book is great as what we could have get used to while reading through whole saga.
The second half is... it is both redundant and repetitive (hope those are proper words).
How I see it, we are fed with re-fried plot, that, on the big picture, is irrelevant and all characters know it.
And when the plot finally ends, we get a face slap instead of a cliffhanger...
... I mean, if you are reading this review, you have probably read other reviews, or you've read the book, so you either know of can foresee the way this book ends.
So my point is - this is a good way to finish the saga - Just like Avengers: Infinity War movie. Main plot is closed, characters are 'fulfilled' and it all is delivered in a way, where a) you kinda anticipated some of it; b) it mostly does make sense.
Hell, now that I've written it down I kinda am sure that it must have been the case.
I did not enjoy Avengers series in general, for most of the time I was not even aware of, say Hulk and Spiderman movies, are part of one story, but when I saw Infinity War I was quite content with how it ended. And I am aware, that the Avengers saga did not finish there, but I am not spoiling my good impression with whatever story is there.
BUT, contrary to Infinity War, I did not really enjoyed Valkyrie ending.
I was accustomed to this saga two years ago and got sucked into it, anticipating and pre-ordering every book as soon as it was available.... I do not wait for next one.

Some passages were so trope and tired I found myself skipping whole pages of pointless dialog getting to the freaken point. Then Skippy goes evil, the end. Two (2) freaken stars...

2.0 out of 5 stars Die Humans Die!!!

Ending was a disappointment.... I'll be sure to read the reviews of the next book before thinking about purchasing the next installment of this series. .... 2 stars ..the ending left a bad taste in my mouth as it were ..I found the ending to be a reminder of some of the other series of books I've read before and discarded....from my perspective, a lazy way to continue the series ....February 9: I've taken a few moments to reconsider my initial review of the 9th book in this serires. I will read the next installment in this series once I finish reading his Transendant seies. I will read that installment without looking at the reviews, a method that has worked well. I recommend his Transendent series, it's well worth reading. .It is well written and shows Craig very capable of a genre shift done well.

2.0 out of 5 stars This series needs to end

I was a huge fan of this series until it has gotten played out, forced, and repetitive. There's literally no where else to go that isn't "more of the same". Seriously, wrap it up and move on to something else. The dynamics between Joe and Skippy has been played out so much I basically just skipped through most of this book to get to the ending... knowing I won't miss anything whatsoever.

Honestly, I’ve enjoyed the series but it’s getting repetitive and bloated. I appreciate the author has a serious work ethic to publish but he really could use an editor or a beta reader, as the typos are getting worse.

The Expedition reinforce books were very good kept me very interested. I waited for each new book with anticipation. It is too bad that humanity had to die in the final pages.
