Generally Good Space Opera Reading And Entertainment

This is actually one large novel, split into 4 volumes (parts) and then sold as a set. But enjoyable none the less. It therefore fits well into the "loss leader" digital book for the author and encourages exploring the authors other books.
Without giving away any story plots or unfolds..... I like authors that develop their characters well, and do so in a somewhat unpredictable yet entertaining manner. GJ Ogden does a fine job in this regard, and makes an entertaining, though classic protagonist/antagonist story plot and theme.
The backstory to some of the characters, and even the races in this novel in how it is revealed, without being overly time consuming. In this regard, the author balances information disclosure and context without being boring or tedious.
The narrator portions of the story line can get a little drawn out sometimes, but hey.. that is why you can skip ahead if you find yourself being bogged down by it.
I like that all ship to ship combat sequences are very real in terms of not having phantom energy shields and instead relying on good old armor plating that is reasonably defensive against energy and ballistic weapons fire, yet not impervious and subject to armor ablation, etc. And the routine use of swarms of repair drones for damages to ships, vehicles, and bases.. is completely appropriate for the time period portrayed.
