Really weak continuation of House/Power of X
Reviewed in the United States on October 26, 2020
I recommend skipping the Dawn of X series entirely. While House of X and Power of X set off an event that wasn't perfect but had a lot of potential, the dawn of x series back tracks into the same boring, poorly written, aimless stories that are plaguing mainstream comics today. I'm a big fan of jonathan hickman but you can tell that he doesn't have nearly as much of a hand in these series. just to list some issues with the Dawn of X series:
- random, seemingly meaningless stories that really just play out like a 'day in the life' of randomly thrown together xmen team.
- most of the stories lack any kind of real/meaningful conflict
- poor continuation of the House of X/Power of X story. Some of the comics in Dawn of X are not even really related to the previous events and the ones that do are not particularly interesting or world building but really feel like random one offs that seem to do something significant and then roll it back in order to maintain the status quo.
Overall, just a really uninspired, boring attempt to explore the ramifications of House of X and a very good example of why comics are struggling today
