The movie was fine, but the book was much better. Bryan Stevenson truly is a remarkable man who has dedicated his life to social justice. I read the book first, and thus was disappointed that the movie focused on only one gentleman that he helped. Plus it has a very "Hollywood" feel to it. There is now a YA version of the book for teens which has discussion questions included. I'm giving it 3 stars for content; if you're not a reader, watch the film. Otherwise, go with the written page.

The story line shows extreme prejudice which I am sure still existed then in many areas. Perhaps it still exists in some backwards town. At least they also showed that there were white people that were good and helpful. In the end it is an unbelievable story of injustice. It would upset any human that has normal emotions and understands the value and worth of a soul black, white or brown it doesn't matter. Anyone in power that acts like the judge and sheriff should be jailed themselves and judged by those they have mistreated.

The story line was good and had a lot of potential but I didn't enjoy the way it all came together. It lacked details and more display of emotion to tie you to the story line. It was just like another law movie, skips trial to trial until they win at the end. I wanted it to pull at my heart strings with the strong story line given but it lacked a lot of detail.
