A great way to continue the story of Vin Husher!

I have been reading everything Scott Bartlett has written for years and was hoping he would follow up on the Ixan Legacy trilogy. For those who haven’t read the Ixan Legacy trilogy, there is a short recap at the beginning of this book, but to truly understand the storyline you really should read the trilogy, even if you do it after reading this book. The trilogy is well written and provides major background for Trapped, although I think this book IS a great read; a book you will find hard to put down once you start reading.
In Trapped (the first book of the new Fleet Ops series), Captain Vin Husher, our hero from previous galactic wars, who literally saved the human race and probably the entire universe we live in, finds himself somewhat of an outcast despite (and also because of) his heroic actions. He saved billions of lives, but billions of others died. So, to some, he is “the butcher” and ‘the top brass’ want him to live out his career in assignments that would have little chance of him getting back into the news.
But to those who know him, he is the most qualified captain for a very delicate (and dangerous) mission. He decides a dangerous mission beats backwater assignments for the rest of his career, so he goes for it, and then things turn out not to be at all what was expected. That does not say too much given that no one really knew what to expect on this new mission.
Trapped is fast paced and introduces us to two new and very unusual alien species. For those who read the Ixan Legacy trilogy it seems clear one is somehow associated with the really ‘bad guys’ in that series. The book ends with me wanting more, as many of Scott’s books do, and I look forward with great anticipation to the next book in this new series.
Although I have never read anything by Joshua James it is clear he and Scott can collaborate seamlessly, so now I feel driven to read something by Joshua! (I just loaded some of his work on my tablet!)
