Better Than Built-in Laptop Camera But Has Flaws
Reviewed in the United States on May 1, 2020
I'm keeping this camera, but just barely. The picture quality is noticeably better than my built-in laptop camera provides. It installs easily and sits nicely on top of my laptop screen and monitor at home.
Two Negatives and an Oddity
(1) The image distorts at a distance; fish eye effect. When I use the camera in my home office, the picture frames and bookshelf in the background are not square. The image bulges a bit the further away you get from the camera. This is not the case with the camera built into my laptop.
(2) I use a USB hub at home. This allows me to plug the laptop into it, and also a full-size keyboard and monitor. When I plug this camera into the USB hub, the camera is not recognized. The laptop sees it just fine when the camera is plugged into it, but does not see it when it is plugged into the hub.
Oddity: The camera comes with a nice privacy cover that the user installs by removing a paper cover that exposes adhesive, and then attaching the cover over the lens. It fits nicely and is easily done. But it's odd that the cover partially obstructs the camera's two indicator lights (power on, camera on). Could the lights not have been repositioned to be fully seen when the cover is added?
