How customer reviews and ratings work

Customer Reviews, including Product Star Ratings help customers to learn more about the product and decide whether it is the right product for them.

To calculate the overall star rating and percentage breakdown by star, we don’t use a simple average. Instead, our system considers things like how recent a review is and if the reviewer bought the item on Amazon. It also analyzed reviews to verify trustworthiness.

I pre-ordered this book because my children are water protectors. In fact my youngest learn how to say water in Lakota before she ever learned it in English... which she learned right there at Oceti Sakowin #NODAPL camp. My older daughter remembers so much from that time and she was only seven. This book is gorgeously Illustrated and although it doesn't go into depth on the details of environmental protest, it definitely memorializes a Time that is very special to us. And it memorializes that time in a way that is authentic to our experience. As we head into an unknown future where water quality, global warming, and political agendas the try to wield those topics like props... I think it is so important that we remember the lessons we learned at Standing Rock. That was not a protest or a war. It was a mind shift. Somewhere already there. Some shifted during that time. But as we go forward, more and more of us are going to be walking along as Water Protectors, Earth Defenders, and land stewards. #MniWiconi #WaterISLife

This book won the Caldecott Award and the illustration is stunning. As a school librarian, I would have a difficult time sharing this book with my students without providing greater background information and other resources for balance. The book is a simplistic view of the very real issues surrounding our energy resources. In this story, the oil pipeline is depicted as an evil black snake that poisons our waterways. The message is the pipeline is evil and wants to destroy the environment. Our students need to learn critical thinking skills, not indoctrination. This book would work as a good starting point for conversation and brainstorming ways to protect the environment from accidents or learning about alternative energy resources that may be safer. It should not be used to demonize an entire industry that most of us benefit from on a daily basis.

This book has a lot of potential but children do not understand that they're not actually talking about a snake that they hate so much...

5.0 out of 5 stars a lyrical story of caution, celebration, and endurance.

WE ARE WATER PROTECTORS, written by Carole Lindstrom and illustrated by Michaela Goade is a lyrical story of caution, celebration, and endurance. The words are a tribute and honor to the thing most important to life – water. Illustrations flow, undulate, and embrace plant and animal life and remind us how we are all one on this Mother Earth.
The author and illustrator are members of indigenous tribes who know what it means to be one with the land and all its living creatures. They show how taking action and standing up for environmental justice is important and necessary. We need books like this now more than ever.

This is an inspiring book about the importance of protecting water. It poetically and artfully describes the importance of water to Indigenous Peoples and the reverence they show water. Through it's depiction of water and the moving prose, it will make readers reflect and think about their own connectedness to water and whether they are a water protector. Water connects us all. This is also a great representation of protest and standing together for what is right. Lastly, the illustrations are phenomenal! Each page is a work of art. It's a beautiful book.

Absolutely stunning! The art in this is worth it in and of itself. The story is simple, not too wordy, but to the point. My three year understood the premise, asked to read it again, and was able to repeat back important details later to a friend! Engaging and beautiful, this is a must for any parent wanting to teach their kids about their world!

Gorgeously illustrated. Every single page is alive with color and beauty. The story itself is empowering to young indigenous people: the water is alive, it is sacred, it is precious, and we must protect it no matter how frightening or hopeless it may seem. I want my nieces and nephews to grow up reading stories like this. It is for a birthday present and I know they will love it.

I bought this book for my 2yr old son. He loves this book. We read it daily. I don't know why, but he loves the part about tears falling like waterfalls. Lol.
I enjoyed the story, it's just isn't complete to me. And I totally understand why, because the Water Protectors job isn't complete yet. But it still feels a little different to read a story with no ending to a child.

This book was beautifully written and illustrated with a message everyone needs! We also need more books like this, highlighting Native American culture! I hope this book inspires people, young and old, to use their voices and stand up for what is right!

An instant hit and classic with me and the half dozen kids I’ve already gifted it to! My 3 and 7 year old nieces from difference families are in love with this book and asking all the right questions. I am thrilled that they love it as much as I do because understanding the critical relationship we have with water and the need for stewardship is incredibly important, whether you know about Standing Rock or not - and whether you are indigenous or not, though it is all the more sweet that it was written by and indigenous person.

I spent over four months at Standing Rock. This book amazingly captures the inspiration I felt there. I cannot recommend it highly enough. I hope you will consider buying an extra copy and gifting it to your local elementary school. It’s a book I hope will become widely available to all.
