If you are currently conducting business with the federal government, or contemplating getting into the government contracting space, you MUST read this book. I write this review from the perspective of a former government contracting officer and as a past Director of the Department of the Navy’s Office of Small Business Programs. I have been helping small businesses in the government contracting space for over 30 years and I can tell you that the tips in this book are spot on.
I recommend reading this book from cover to cover and then using it as a resource guide, focusing on the specific chapters that pertain to your company in the moment. The section covering the entitled 10 Reasons You Need a Government Coach is excellent. Most companies want to be successful and make more money. Yet, I have encountered companies that don't take advice well and think that for some reason, their company is different. Read this section!
The authors, Joshua Frank, Michael Lejeune, and all of the contributing authors are well respected experts in the government contracting space.
Michael LeJeune and Joshua Frank have added their own wisdom to the insights of over two dozen guest authors they hand-picked from among the country's top govcon experts. I've been in the federal arena advising thousands of companies for over 32 years, and I can tell you that the experts they chose smash pretty much every one of the most common -- and biggest -- stumbling blocks that stand between a government contractor and the success they dream of.
You can expect insight on everything from early-stage "gotta's" like certification to the fine points and technical insider tactics on cyber security, contract novation, growing through acquisition (yes, you could BUY a company!), and how to get help from someone you can trust in one of the most complex markets in the world. I'm honored to be a guest author of a chapter on what it takes to get in front of the federal buyer who needs what you do, and I share a powerful story I haven't published anywhere else.
If you are interested in building a successful business, this is a definite must have. I have been to numerous events and conferences, and anytime Josh Frank is speaking, he is the guy to see. No nonsense and smart direction from him. He has a great perspective on business planning and strategies. There are other experts providing their insights and practices which makes this a great guide for any business. An invaluable book. I have been helping businesses sell to the government for >10 years, and I have found this is one of the best books in my arsenal, the other is "An insider's Guide to Winning Government Contracts."
There are endless reasons why America is a great country of opportunity, this book helps guide business/ individuals on how to navigate and capitalize on our great American government's economy, and generate real revenue. Seasoned Subject Matter Experts experience and advice consolidated into one resource, covering topics from A-Z. As I re-read sections and learn more each time, there is so much good information in this "revenue guidebook"!
I recently read this book on a quick weekend wedding trip and found it to be very informative. I was able to focus on specific chapters that applied to the company I work and our industry, but also found the other chapters to be informative as well. I highly recommend this book for Business Owners, Executives, or anyone in the field that is looking to learn more about how to grow and manage a successful GovCon SB.
But I love the most about this book is how I can dive in, read expert teachings on topics that are essential for my business today, and still learn new things about topics I thought I had mastered. Michael and Josh put together such an incredible panel of co-authors. Episodes like nine on building government relationships, 12 on joint ventures, 21 on price to win, and 28 on contract novation we’re all extremely insightful.
I have really enjoyed Game Changer, I have been a small business owner/operator in the government contracting arena for over twenty years. I have also been and continue to be a PTAC counselor and small business coach and consultant. The information in the book even with my years in GovCon is very useful and some even enlightening. I would highly recommend this book to anyone interested in GovCon.
This book serves as an excellent guide for ANYONE in the government contracting industry. The authors have done a tremendous job of compiling the insights from the industry's visionary leaders into one thorough book. Each chapter is well written, highly detailed, and easily digestible. I especially enjoyed chapters by Rob Rosenberger and Courtney Spaeth. I cannot recommend this book enough!
This book offers incredible perspectives from many people in the field who provide their expertise to provide anyone new or seasoned in the space with a road map of what to do to be successful. From business development and business growth advice to how to sell your firm, this book is a must have for anyone in the field or anyone looking to get into the field.
The opinions offer many different perspectives and the gift that Michael and Josh have to bring together pearls of wisdom from the government contracting world in one piece of work is incredibly helpful to many of us in the field.
