I liked it! The author writes a healthy amount of stuff that cures me of my usual addiction of fast-paced burn-through books and while my impatience had my eyes skimming by habit, I forced myself to slow down and enjoy it. There were times when I put it down to go do something else until I could chill out but I still came back to it.

I like the teasing thought of her having any kind of romantic notion with one of the male counterparts. I have a thing for enemies to lovers but even if nothing comes out of it, I’d still be really interested in seeing some kind of solid relationship emerge.

It was a nice basic foundation with a good plot that built atop it. I think it’s cool that she’s this hero who sacrifices but the world sees her as a straight up assassin. And I like that she’s older, another relief from the usual 18-22 age bracket.

Completely different plot from many fantasy fiction stories out there. Writing was solid. Val was intriguing. Not quite as tough as was perceived but descent. When we meet Zav in the beginning of the story, I definitely wanted more. However, we catch some glimpses of him and then he basically disappears until about 65% of the story. Gotta admit that part dragged on for me. I wad holing this was a fated mates type thing but its clearly not, maybe a slow burn...A VERY slow burn.

Val works for the government taking care of problems they don't want the general public to know about, such as dragons, vampires, and elves. But when she finds out her boss is sick she tries to find a cure. At the same time a dragon from another universe is looking for criminals to rehabilitate which starts their advantage together which brings them in contact with dark elves, vampires, and a kracken. I enjoyed it a lot and recommend it.

I’m so delighted to have found a new author that I really like, although I should have read this series before the one with the elf assassin and the half human half dwarf. That one is excellent too. I love her characters and the smart mouth of the assassin who looks like a tall nordic Valkyrie.

I’ve been a fan of Lindsay Buroker (under all pen names) for many years and will admit that this series being located in my life-long stomping grounds (ok so primarily a few miles further south than I prefer, but still!) makes it extra intriguing for me. But the combination of wit, humor and incredibly good storyline makes it oh so very worth the time to read the entire series (then move into the next series!!!!)! I’ve laughed and cried and overall enjoyed my time spent in this world so much that I decided to come back to where it started and leave my thoughts. The fact that it’s (currently) Kindle Unlimited too makes it that much easier to pick up and enjoy!

This was a good read. It started off fairly fast paced but had a few slow parts until the end. I like the characters and I will read the next book to see how they evolve. Val seems to be changing already and I doubt it is the therapy. Her magic is changing. This was a good, clean read.
