I'm not sure if Mr. Yo is a new author, as I didn't see other books by him mentioned. If he is, he's got a wonderful new career ahead of him, and I'm a bit surprised the book was as good as it is, because new authors usually have a "learning" adjustment period. If he's not a new author, then where can I find other things he's written, because I definitely want to read more by this guy!
The author builds the story slowly, but steadily, allowing it to grow naturally until, at some point, you find yourself sitting on the edge of your seat, reading furiously to find out what's going to happen. The characters are completely believable, I think I've known a couple of them in real life! If you enjoy a good action/ adventure/ sci-fi, then this book has got to be on your "must read" list!
A great read...and in terms of timing, the author’s release date is uncanny. Was he sitting on this, waiting for a global pandemic to drop it on us? I’ll give the benefit of the doubt and presume he’s not an evil genius.
That said, while he may not be an evil genius, there’s a level of ingenuity in his storytelling that’s impressive. Solid character development, a well-envisioned world, and a well-paced narrative make this a page-turner that’s hard to put down.
If you’re already oversaturated with pandemic anxiety, you might prefer cat videos for now. But if you’re looking for an escape within our new normal, one that contemplates a future with aspects that seem far less fanciful than they would’ve seemed just a couple of months ago, you can’t go wrong here. Highly recommended.
Anyone living in the time of the COVID-19 social distancing will relate to many of the choices and restrictions faced by the human race at the outset of Isonation. The underlying story, complex relationships, and human spirit embodied in the characters of this story turn this into a page-turner for those of us practicing self-isolation. The story unfolds in ways that are often unexpected, but ultimately (always) reeling the reader in. Looking for more from this author and this universe!
A great (and timely!) twist on the zombie apocalypse narrative, full of adventure and mystery and compelling characters. The book moves breathlessly as we follow Zoah Lightsea on her quest to discover the truth behind the virus that changed life forever, killing off millions and isolating people from the world.
Sound familiar? You'll likely identify with the characters and find yourself gasping at some of the parallels and resonances. Definitely cathartic!

WOW!! Isonation could not have been released at a more appropriate time in modern-day history. It offers an almost prophetic vision of what our post-pandemic world could look like in the event that we continue to lose our freedoms to this new reality. However, it’s not all doom and gloom in this well written, sci-fi, cautionary-tale. In Churl Yo deftly develops believable, engaging characters who are full of optimism, courage and humor despite their circumstances. The environments, habitations and technological advancements are striking and imaginative, creating a truly immersive experience for the reader. The story gives a voice not only to the anxiety and claustrophobia of our current times, but also to the hope and faith that things can, and will, get better. Despite our isolation, we are never truly alone. Just as Isonation’s main characters are, we are stronger than our circumstances, and ingenuity will prevail. In Isonation’s post-pandemic view of Earth, humans have determinedly constructed virtual living spaces in order to cope with their claustrophobic and isolated existences. The main characters here live most of their lives in “the Virt”, which is “real enough”, but they begin to feel constrained by the limitations of the “Virt” and desire more. Main characters, Zoah Lightsea, and her boyfriend, Milton, feel the push and pull of the longing for full-spectrum, real-world, sensory living vs. the safe (yet illusory) comfort of “Virt” life. Human interaction and partnership in true 3D, with all of its difficulties and victories, vs. the flat, 2D, controlled experience they have grown up with. The two join together with a like-minded group of characters who devote themselves to uncover truths the government and industry has hidden from the masses. Although the governing structures and abolishment of freedoms were initially put into place in pandemic times, and were most likely a necessity to maintain safety and order, they have become a way of life that benefits only those with power. Now, industry and government have banded together to perpetuate the myth that maintaining the status quo of isolation is the only way existence remains possible. Zoah and her team set out to prove that, when willing, humanity can rise above the limitations of the status quo. Don’t worry, no spoilers here, but by the end of the novel In Churl Yo leaves readers hanging in suspense in the most wonderful way. He leaves us in a delicious place of hopeful, giddy excitement and anticipation for our characters futures… and maybe, hopefully, a SEQUEL?!
