Wow! This is the best book I have read in a while; and believe me, I am an avid reader! I thoroughly enjoyed this book so much I hated for it to end. I seriously fell in love with the protagonist, an aging man suffering from Alzheimer's and alcoholism. Talk about a flawed hero; this man had so many shortcomings it was ridiculous. Yet, the more this troubled soul admitted to his many character defects, the more loveable he actually became. The plot was nothing short of sheer genius on the part of author John Meany, and I look forward to reading more of his books.
The story is basically about a man that witnesses a murder, and has to deal with the fact that everyone is questioning his mental capacity when he reports it. The surprise ending is icing on the cake! This book is also extremely well-written, has a consistent and cohesive theme, and the setting is superbly described so that it places the reader right there with the characters. I have reviewed quite a few books and I've become somewhat selective about what I read. I also can be very blunt concerning my likes and dislikes regarding the books, so my feedback isn't always what the author works want to hear. However, in this instance, all my annoying little peeves and innuendos were surprisingly subdued by the author's sublime talents. This book is a true mystery, complete with ample twists and turns in ALL the right places. I highly recommend this book to all readers of all ages. Excellent job Mr. Meanie!
