Definitely another five star masterpiece by an exceptionally outstanding western folklore author, as each new adventure brings the reader closer to the edge of their chair, as the Cheney's, although in different areas, pull no punches on the protection of their constituents. Plenty of fast moving gunfights, and the brothers have their own battles to fight in this fast moving western masterpiece of never-ending quest for justice. On-going outstanding storylines in their thoroughly descriptive storylines that successfully maintains anyone's undivided attention from beginning to end. Too, the character selections were effectively chosen for their commanding assignments and the compassionate excitement never faltered from beginning to end. Definitely recommend this compassionately motivated story to all readers, but especially to you western folklore lovers, as your inner most desires will most definitely be appeased as you turn each exciting new page. Too, even you non-western readers will find yourselves unable o put this book aside until New adventure has been fulfilled. Your loss, McDougall to follow the exciting Chaney brothers, as they unveil each and every exciting new adventure!!!😄
Robert Vaughan is my favorite Western author, sorry Zane and Louis still love ya, and this is one of his best. I like all his series especially Mason Hawke books (if you haven't read them stop right now and get them) but his best work may be the Chaney Brothers series and this is the best of them. So well written but also complicated in plot and plotting. A true Western classic, so it turn a true American classic.
For those who enjoy your Westerns filled with action, cunning antagonist, and protagonist their equal, then this is the story for you. Readers can't help but ride along with Lance and Buck, along with some amazing side -kicks, as they dispense justice to those who think themselves and their desires are paramount and above the laws of men. Other than some typo and minor formatting issues, this story is a winner.
Another great book about the Chaney brothers escapades enforcing the law. Both Buck and lance have close calls in this book and deal with complex problems, outlaws and a range war over sheep ranchers coming in. Well written, and full of action and intrigue.
Robert Vaughn – Chaney Brothers Bk 4 – Chaney Law – Reviewed 5/20/20 – Read 5/6/20
Lance and Buck Chaney served in the war, but now they serve the law, their law. Buck took off after the Carter brothers, and he found them. Unfortunately, one of their bullets found him. After riding until he passed out, he wakes up to find himself being doctored by a Mexican family. Buck and his brother were raised and live by the motto of repaying their debts. Now the only problem is that this family inherited the ranch and all the sheep on it. Worse yet, it is right in the middle of cattle country in Texas. Debts being what they are, he can’t just walk out of the sheep war against the Texas cattlemen. If that wasn’t bad enough, these cattlemen are not playing by the west rules, they are making up their own! That is to kill the sheep and anything that comes with it! Men, women, and children it makes no difference. Buck is in over his head so he sends word to his brother for help.
While Buck has been on the brink of death and now in the middle of this war, Lance has problems of his own, bodies are piling up and he has no clue as to why! After he sends his new deputy to help Buck he tracks down the killer, but worse yet the killer is shot in his jail cell before Lance can figure out why he was killing everyone! With his dying breath, he says, “Grand Valley.” Lance has no idea what that means but he is sure going to find out. And the story begins…
What did I like? This is the fourth book in this series, I thought the previous ones were awesome, but this one is over the hill. The storyline is so involved, with the bullets flying in every direction, good and bad. The boys are just as awesome this time as in the past, with the values and stubbornness just as high. While they operate separately, the stories are astounding and they both work to find justice for all. Importantly though, they make sure that the little guy is not forgotten.
What will you like? Powerful action, bullet count extremely high on both sides, intense mystery, and justice is sought by both boys. Working with all of the new characters that have been added, which are just as exciting and interesting. They find themselves in trouble with all kinds of bad guys. Now, of course, we all know that these boys are full of ingenuity when having a backup is problematic, they come up with ways to overcome most of their difficult situations. When things don’t work out just right, they fight for injustice to be paid back! An excellent read to bring you up to date in the Chaney Brothers series.
There was absolutely nothing I disliked about this book and absolutely everything I loved. From the beginning the action started and did not stop until the end. It was like two adventures in one. The story involves two brothers that are handling two different law enforcement situations. This book is very well written and does not come up short in anyway. It definitely deserves a place on your bookshelf where you keep the “Most Likely to Read Again “ category.
