How customer reviews and ratings work

Customer Reviews, including Product Star Ratings help customers to learn more about the product and decide whether it is the right product for them.

To calculate the overall star rating and percentage breakdown by star, we donโ€™t use a simple average. Instead, our system considers things like how recent a review is and if the reviewer bought the item on Amazon. It also analyzed reviews to verify trustworthiness.

A great dictionary and timeline of the who's who and what's what of the Marvel Comics universe. A cool embossed cover, that looks good on display too.

2.0 out of 5 starsNot good for girls

Yikes! About 10 seconds into flipping through this book which I ordered for my 9 year old daughter, I realize that it is the last thing I'd want her to look at. Women's bodies and the barely-there outfits to go with it are exaggerated to a new level. I hope more women will choose to become illustrators in the future so we can create our own narrative and imagery and define what it means to be a hero.

5.0 out of 5 stars Truly Ultimate!

This truly is an ultimate book! I'm thoroughly impressed at the content, and the way that all of the material is presented for reading - and reference. Most of the major heroes and villains are presented, and if any are missing - I haven't found any yet. DK Publishing is known for their detailed and comprehensive books, and this is 320 pages of pure Marvel goodness. One of the cool things that I like about it, is that some of the heroes/villains get a timeline reference to their roles through several periods that is referenced in the book: Golden Age, Atlas Age, Marvel Age, Bronze Age, Modern Age, and Heroic Age. Each of these ages is color coded too, so reading a panel lets the reader know what timeline the information is from.

The book also outlines the ages in their own respective sections, highlighting the heroes/villains that were introduced during their respective times. For example, Captain America is referenced and introduced in the Golden Age - Iron Man, Spider-Man, X-Men are introduced during the Marvel Age. It's a very nice of showing the history of the Marvel Universe, and it makes sense. Not everything seems to get extensive showcasing either. I think for more details on Avengers, Guardians of the Galaxy, and even the X-Men - acquiring their respective DK Publishing books would give even greater details. The book gives a terrific account of significant events, but it's not all-encompassing... which is okay.

The only thing that I wish this book did was perhaps be more like the Marvel Universe characters sheets, and give power attributes, strengths, weaknesses, etc. all setup in a cartouche for comparative reference too. Maybe we'll get that in a future book.

The book has some great art in it too. There are art panels from all of the respective ages, and it was nice to see some of the Golden/Marvel Age material - but not too much of it. There's a good amount of Modern/Heroic Age material to keep the art sharp & crisp for current comic standards (in my opinion).

If you're looking for a book that references every comic age, it's hard to go wrong with this ultimate book. I'm very happy with my purchase, and I highly recommend it for any Marvel fan.

/EDIT: Something to note, which I hadn't considered - The Marvel Universe has about 10,000 heroes, and about 100,000 characters in all. Because of that fact, no everyone could possibly make it into a one volume book. Even one of this incredible size. The author and publisher seem to include the most popular and relevant characters. It would not surprise me to learn that as time goes on, that books of this nature continue to change their information. Enjoy!

I bought this for my husband for his birthday, he's a Marvel fan. This book is heavy and reminded me of a college textbook, LOL ๐Ÿ˜† But, there's a ton of information inside; heroes, villains, vehicles, etc. Great gift for the Marvel fan in your life!

Its a large book, but it has very small words. My boyfriend just looks at the pictures because the words are so tiny. He does like it though. He's a huge marvel fan. I'd buy it again just to have it as a statement piece for his little man cave. Its a solid 4 stars.

5.0 out of 5 stars Great reference book!!

I am a big Marvel MCU fan and I find this book, although it's not 100% the same story line as the movies, to be a great reference guide for characters back stories and comic affiliations. It's got a lot of information, great pictures, easy timelines to follow and pretty much every character in Marvel history. The only one I haven't found in the book is Thanos' helper Ebony Maw, unsure if he came after this or was created by the Mcu themselves.
