This children's book takes a clever approach to introducing words in a new language: by suggesting the wrong thing to the main character. Over and over again, the wrong thing. And each time, the character names that thing, saying it's not what they needed. But they name it in the other language. And it's accompanied by a drawing. So, when they say, "No he perdido cinco llaves," and there's a drawing of five keys, and a young reader can easily surmise the meaning. The book utilizes Context, not Translation. So young readers are practicing higher order thinking skills and, with several readings, possibly acquiring vocabulary instead of just memorizing it.
I speak German, my granddaughter speaks Spanish. I have both the German book and the Spanish book. I can pronounce the German words, so she's learning. She's teaching me the Spanish words, making it more fun for her to read the book with the German words. I love the concept, but unless you have someone who speaks the language, you won't know how to pronounce the words.
We were delighted to find this excellent resource for teaching basic Spanish to children. The story is so much fun, the illustrations are engaging, and the characters lovable. Disbursed through the English text are basic Spanish words, as an adorable mouse tries to collect his 'sombrero' from lost and found. The story is fun in its own right, but is perfect as a teaching aid. Highly recommend.
This book is summed up in one word, awesome! It has an older illustration feel to it. It reminds me of the books that were around when I was little. It has a very catching story and helps to teach Spanish in a way that is easier to understand and really interesting. I recommend this to anyone trying to help their little ones learn a new language. I am excited to read through some of the other languages with this cute little story.
My boys really enjoyed reading this book. As they are learning Spanish site words in school, this was a great book to reinforce the language in a fun way! The illustrations were silly and very detailed, which we love because it allows us to open conversation together to truly appreciate and explore the book. Highly suggested!
This is such a fantastic book - we all loved it. Not only is it a really cute and enjoyable story but along the way the kids get to learn some Spanish words. We had a lot of fun trying to guess what the little mouse had lost - and translate the Spanish words into what they may be. This has quickly become a firm favourite and is highly recommended.
