This series has been dark urban fantasy, with much in the way of cruelty and brutality on the part of the antagonists, yet with a tremendously tough decency on the part of Rosie and her crew. The story line was well paced and full fleshed, but what makes this series superb, is the fact the the author ended it. Too many authors drag out a series that has become popular, until it becomes quite literally a boring shell of itself. Not here. The story has reached a satisfying conclusion and Rosie can now figure out where her life will go from here - we don’t necessarily have to know.
Better yet, because this is a smart author, the door to Rosie O’Grady’s world has not been locked - merely closed. As Ms Kingsolver so nicely informed her readers, whenever Rosie feels like dropping by again to fill us in on new events, she’ll be welcome. Conversely, if she never wants to tell us more, she has a right to her privacy. I like that. I like that a whole heck of a lot.
