Borrowing Bentley is the ninth book in the Wishing Well series by the writing duo, Melanie Shawn. While this is part of a series, you won't have any issues if this is the first book in the series you pick up.

Maisy Turner is all grown up and because of a scandal that has hit her small Texas town, she might actually have a chance to prove that she's an individual and not just one of the "Turner Triplets". While she loves her sisters, she either got mistaken for one of them or lumped together as a threesome instead of three individuals. She's got the opportunity now to advance her career and she couldn't be more excited. Well, that's until she learns who she has to work with.

Bentley Calhoun is currently on leave from the police department due to a shooting during a case he was assisting with. He's working toward getting back on active duty, but that's all left in the hands of the shrink he's seeing weekly. He couldn't be more surprised when he's summonsed to the mayor's office and told that he's going to be working on a committee to help figure out the scandal that has just broken. Oh and the committee has a total of two members; himself and Maisy Turner.

Bentley and Maisy have quite the history dating back when they were five years old. They know how to push one another's buttons and they don't get along in general. Will these two be able to put the past behind them in order to solve the problem? Or will the fact that they are working so closely together make them see things they may not have seen before?

Maisy and Bentley definitely had mad chemistry. The way they were able to poke and prod at one another was amusing. I also really enjoyed how we got their backstory from both perspectives which gave the story a lot of richness. I appreciated that it wasn't just glossed over. This was a light, enjoyable read and one that was a breath of fresh air.

I could not finish this book. In fact, I stopped after three chapters. I thought it was going to be a sweet story where a woman falls in love with a man who irritated her during her school years but now is a mature person, and she finds herself surprisingly attracted to him. Nope. First of all, the language, up to and including the f-word, was a turnoff. Second, Bentley is an awful person, getting routinely drunk since high school, admitting to being an “ends justify the means” person, and still acting like a jerk to Maisey. By far the worst of all, the author decided to provide us with a luridly detailed description of a lewd sexual fantasy he has about her while masturbating. Normally I’ll finish even a poor book just to see how it ends, or to marvel over what a train wreck it is, but the language, filthy sexual passage, and horrid “hero” had me deleting this one quickly.

Borrowing Bentley is a phenomenal contemporary romance by Melanie Shawn. This team of authors has provided readers with a well-written book populated with fun and lovable characters. Bentley can't return to his job on the police force until he's cleared by his shrink. Maisy sees her new job as a way to become her own person, not one of a set of triplets. When Bentley, the bane of her existence, is assigned to work with her on a project...she is not a happy camper. Maisy and Bentley's story is packed with drama, laugh-out-loud humor and sizzle. I enjoyed this book and look forward to reading more from Melanie Shawn in the future. Borrowing Bentley is book 9 of the Wishing Well, Texas Series but can be read as a standalone. This is a complete book, not a cliff-hanger.

I couldn't get past the description of a man masturbating in the shower in the very beginning of the book. I tried to read a little farther but it didn't improve with the vast majority of the words talking about how much each one was lusting after the other. Very little story for so many words.

Loved this story!!! The proverbial pulling my pigtails sorry because he liked you. Bentley and Maisey have known each other since they were five. And seemed to have a strong dislike of one another. BUT. That was a misconception. Because they also were highly attracted to one another. And what seemed like antagonizing happened to be poorly turned out attention seeking behavior by Bentley because he liked her. And it just never worked out in her favor. Lol. They were so cute and funny together with their banter and attraction. Loved how they balanced each other out. Only thing I didn’t like was that nothing came to light about Camilla. And wtf his brother is a POS.

Well written story with likable main characters. It is heavy on inner dialogue and I did skim through portions. The back and forth between the MCs is well balanced. HEA.

4.0 out of 5 stars 9th Wishing Well Book, but no use of the Well

I've read a few of the other Wishing Well based books and totally enjoyed them. They were early in the series and I think I only saw 1 or 2 mentions of them in this book; and no use of the well. It is a really fun book as the couple have known each other since kindergarten and communicated at cross purposes for 20 years. How they finally work things out is a fun read. I'll have to go find the other triplet's stories Others in this story likely have stories, too.

For those who don't like detailed sex. It is easy to skim most of it. Every once in the while a beginning or ending has some story element, so skim not skip. Some if it is better written than I have seen in other books.

I loved this book. I found it on sale for free one day and decided to give it a try, I didn't realize it was the ninth book, even if it is a standalone you see other characters from previous love stories in this one. I am eager to go back and read the rest of the series and hope they continue this same fun type of energy.

*possible spoilers*
This is an enemies to lovers troupe and it is absolutely perfect. I love how most of their "fights" were rooted in misunderstandings. Her taking the deeds as him doing them on purpose and him genuinely trying to be good and instead something goes wrong or he doesn't correct her for fear of rejection.

I loved that it is understandable the fact they are kids and misunderstandings happen and not everyone is willing to be honest about their feelings especially at that age but now they are grown and have a hard time denying that attraction.
This is definitely one of my favorites in this troupe especially because it doesn't go with the "he's mean because he likes you" but more of "right idea, wrong execution" lol

I'm so glad I found this book and can't wait to read more by this author!!

Another great trip back to Wishing Well Texas. This time up Maisey (Daisy with and M) the city planner and Bentley ( Benny to his family) a police officer. These two have been battling each other since the first day of kindergarten. Pushing each others buttons is what they do best. They are forced to work together to research a city scandal will the walls come crumbling down or will love find a way?
