4.0 out of 5 starsBig Splash for a Series Opener
Reviewed in the United States on February 2, 2021
This was a good start to a new series! It is a paranormal world with themes from the crazy that spawned from many current events. It was such a fresh take on paranormal politics and cultural commentary...totally relatable to the now. We have a diverse cast coming forward, lots of representation for POC and LGBTQ+. I admit this isn't his book but...I'm kind of obsessed with our flirty, Irish pansexual vampire. Plus I loved our strong and sassy heroine, Neha Ahluwalia. She hits the steam and sensual buttons with her big, bad wolf Joe Peluso. I really liked their banter and how she held her own against the alpha.
Despite all the good, the one thing I do have to complain about was the self-loathing coming from our hero Joe. Towards the end of the book I felt like he was on constant tirades of how he's trash and no good. It seemed to be all he was capable of talking about, and part of me just wanted Neha to call him on it and walk out midsentence. However, things did seem to move forward and I really enjoyed the read. I definitely want more! More smut. More details on our characters and their backstories. More books. A lot of this book seemed to be setting the tone for upcoming novels. I'm really excited to see what happens with the rest of the characters at Third Shift and how the series evolves.

3.0 out of 5 starsStory development overshadowed by tons of no-story telling descriptions
Reviewed in the United States on November 10, 2021
Where to start from... When the real story was moving, it was very good. Fact is that it got steadily suffocated & buried by tons of in-depth descriptions of.. fried air. I've found myself skipping so much after trying for really longer to read every word. I've simply got lost with all those word-heavy descriptions.... As if I were under water holding my breath trying to reach the surface, and never succeeding.
It's a shame 'cause I could feel Joe becoming a "real" thing in the short lines of story development, or Neha. To be perfectly honest, I did find a bit "out of character" that she went from the "stay-far" attitude to the "jump-on-him" squad in a heartbeat.

All in all, get rid of all those disquisitions around thin air of nothing, and it might be a 5.

5.0 out of 5 stars An excellent series start

The basics: Joe was turned into a wolf shifter while he was a soldier. He thinks being a killer is all he has to offer and has turned vigilante. Neha is a psychologist turned lawyer, part of the team hired to defend Joe. They strike sparks immediately with verbal sparring and some serious pining. When an attack on Joe’s life sends them on the run, it’s all exploding lust and feelings. Outside of Joe and Neha, there is a whole underground world of shifters and magical beings waiting to come to light.

Snyder brings her love of soap operas to her world building in Big Bad Wolf. This is the first book in a series, so she is building a world and introducing characters and hinting at their future stories. The folks at Third Shift Security start to populate the novel and become intriguing characters on their own right without stealing focus from Neha and Joe*. There are a couple of significant fight scenes, which is not something I’ve read from Snyder before, and she writes it so well. The fight scenes solidified my 5 star rating, because she clearly communicates the violence and chaos while keeping in character growth and emotional epiphanies. When I finished I almost cried at how long I have to wait for the next book. I am anxious for more of this world and just from this book I can see so many stories I want to read. I feel like the direction this is going is the team working to put a world that has gone wrong to rights and creating a safer place for them to live and love.

Joe isn’t going to be everyone’s favorite kind of hero. He’s moody and keeps trying to do the right thing for Neha without listening to Neha’s opinions. Big Bad Wolf is very much a redemption story for him. I am bouncing in my seat waiting for Pretty Little Lion.

*Except for Finn. The vampire steals every scene he is in.

5.0 out of 5 stars Thoroughly enjoyable standalone paranormal romance.

Big Bad Wolf by Suleikha Snyder is a thoroughly enjoyable standalone paranormal romance. It is filled with witty dialog, intriguing, independent and relatable characters, steamy heat and a suspenseful and believable story.
Joe is in a definite legal pickle (as well as being the target of a nasty villain) and Neha is a lawyer and psychologist tasked with finding Joe's real truth. I loved both characters from the very beginning, and that love only grew throughout the well-crafted tale.
There are happy cooking show references, quality friends and fun family. It's an excellent read and I definitely recommend it.

5.0 out of 5 stars Can't Wait for Book Two

Some descriptions of this book characterized it as "dark," and since that can mean a lot of things in romance and I'm a huge chicken, I held off reading this for a while. I wish I hadn't!
Big Bad Wolf had the *perfect* blend of suspense, heat, and romance. The world-building and the character development were really something special, and the plot kept me up reading wayyyy past my bedtime. It combined the best elements of shifter and mafia romances and while that's not my usual jam, this title definitely made me a believer. I tried to make this one last as long as I could, but I couldn't wait long to see how it would end. Absolutely can not wait to read the next installments in the series, Pretty Little Lion and Cold Hearted Snake!

I usually devour books but this one I sampled, nibbled and finally took that last bite. There were times when I did not know if I would finish, or if I even wanted to, but I kept coming back and would be drawn in. There were times I wanted to smack Joe and tell Neah to run while she could.

As much as it is trope with the wold shifter finding his mate, it is worth taking the little nibbles and really think and enjoy the Third Shift.

3.0 out of 5 stars I liked it

There is a lot going on with this one. That's to be expected as it's setting up a series. What I really liked was that we got the perspective from Neha . It's always good to experience characters that are not the typical cis het caucasian. You get a realistic perspective from an American woman of Indian descent after the 4th president. The plot was well executed with characters that can easily move to the forefront in other stories. There's an HEA and no cliffhangers.

5.0 out of 5 stars Great book!

I don’t know how I came across this great book. I read primarily urban fantasy and generally you know what the protagonists are going to say and do, especially in the romance side of things.
Not so here. The stumbles, strengths and tribulations were quite real to me since they weren’t simple.
I loved the input about Sikh/Punjab because I miss my friend Jagtar Singh who taught me more about spiritualism than being raised Catholic.
This is a gritty work in some ways but not overtly (or overdone) in my view.
Looking forward to book 2!

You will stay up all night reading this book!!! I could not put it down. The world building is clever and easy to follow. Nothing felt info dumpy or out of place. All the characters were engaging and memorable and the plot was fast paced.

I know that this is a story I will return to, not only for fun, but to appreciate the adept cleverness with which Suleika Snyder weaves issues of toxic masculinity, religious identity, sexuality etc etc all together. You can read this as a shifter romance, or you can read this as a reflection on the past four years. BRILLIANT!

A great tale of shifters, rage, fascist government and a brave and strange new world. The things that go bump in the night turn out to be friendly heroes. Well maybe friendly is a bit too much but definitely heroes.
This book started out a bit slow but when the action picked up it turned into a freight train.
Enjoyed the author's insight into the Sikh culture.
