I love the idea of this book, showing and telling the different steps needed to create 3D drawings and optical illusions. Unfortunately, the execution wasn't the best it could be. Perhaps the most problematic is that the photos that go along with each drawing are of pretty bad quality. Most show the flash of the bulb reflecting on the surface that the paper is on. Some photos are very dark, and most are dark to some extent. Others have strange lighting that makes it hard to see what you are supposed to draw. I think the author perhaps could have scanned most of these and gotten better quality. There are also some issues with the few words that are in this book. My guess is that the author is not a native English speaker, which is fine, but some phrases and sentences are a little awkward, particularly in the introduction and here and there in the descriptions of the steps for the drawings. If you can actually follow along drawing these 3D items and optical illusions, they're actually pretty cool and certainly impressive looking. You'll learn how to draw 3D hearts, letters, and other shapes as well as optical illusions. I particularly like the letter M that appears to be peeling off the page and the two hearts (one 3D and one optical illusion). If you want to try your hand at drawing these things, I suggest you check out the Look Inside at Amazon to make sure that the photos will work for you. I found them a little frustrating, but I did like the results.
1/2 star taken off for the writing & 1.5 star taken off for the photographs
I received a free copy of this book, but that did not affect my review.
The pictures included are easy to follow. I had hoped that there would also be some generic instructions on how to make your own optical illusions, but it is limited to the drawings included in the instructions and the instructions given don't say why they work. I can guess that it has something to do with the lines being different and misleading, but it doesn't specify the why.

*Update: The author notified me that she will be adding my suggestion to the book. I'm excited to see this change.
This was the perfect book for my creative needs. I needed something different for a cake order for a job promotion and nothing special came until I happened upon this book. I took one look at the stairs illustration and will be practicing it with an airbrush for this cake next month. I will add photos when the cake is done. I love this book!!! It has really got my creative juices working! received a free copy of this book. This review was posted voluntarily
This is a great book for anyone looking to learn to draw 3D objects. My daughter is very artistic and thought this was an easy book to follow and a great resource to have. I would definitely recommend.
