WHAT AN ENDING TO AN AMAZING SERIES!
Reviewed in the United States on October 5, 2020
I am a verified purchaser, and have been a fan of Deborah Wilde's books since "The Unlikeable Demon Hunter" series. The "Jezebel Files" series "does it all" in fewer books, but are no less exciting and crazy imaginative. My mind is always awed by the creativity an imagination involved in world-building with my favorite authors, and Ms. Wilde quickly became one of those years ago.
In the last, but oh, soooooo, exciting conclusion to the "Jezebel Files" series, we find Ash and all of her "crew" racing to find out who are the leaders of Chariot, first of all, and then, how to stop their quest for immortality and unlimited power. Ash and her sexy man, Levi, are on the "outs", and the tension between them could be cut with a knife, which only makes it more difficult for them to work together to "end" Chariot, esp. since we now know that Levi's father, Issac, is not only a member of Chariot, but is probably their leader. I don't like to tell the book's story in my reviews (although I do confess that I have read books' reviews to see what happened), but there are so many surprises that every page is an exciting addition to the story. There are NO extraneous pages or sections in this book, or any of her books, that seem to plod along, because they are setting up part of the story that will be needed later - Wilde manages to pack so much into her books, that EVERY page is important and exciting at the same time. I still can't believe that so many questions are answered and concluded in one book. There is a very surprising betrayal, by someone who has been an important part of the entire series, and my mind is still blown with Wilde's invention of Hedon and the crazy things that can happen there, that later have a huge impact on the story. Things that happen in Hedon are "a story within a story", and Wilde seamlessly integrates those events with those of the "real" world in such a way that I am always surprised how she does it. Also, I have never been able to "predict" where her books will go, and this is the key to all great writers' books.
You will not regret reading this book, or any of Wilde's books - her heroines are snarky, sarcastic, extremely intellectually funny, and bad ass - no matter what, they never, ever, give up. Her imagination is unparalleled in the realm of storytelling - and I almost exclusively read Paranormal Fantasy/adventure series'. Thank you, Deborah, for another extraordinary and incredible book.
