Peacemaker here, Peacemaker there, Peacemakers everywhere

Before discussing some of the stories in Set The Terms I will mention that any fan of the 4HU series, especially Peacemaker followers will want to read Mark Wandrey’s story that opens the collection. There is important information contained in the story. As usual, another fantastic collection form CKP publishing. All the stories were fantastic I am only going to mention some so the review is not overly long. There are stories about Peacemakers that are known to the fans of the series. These include a story by Kevin Inkenberry and Peter J. Aldin about how Jessica Francis started down the path to becoming a Peacemaker. Another well known Peacemaker was involved in the process. Jackson Rain’s tale, Gumbo by Matt Novotny is set some time after Fields of Fire, it would be a good idea to read that novel before reading this story.

There are also stories that introduce Peacemakers new to the Reader or have not made many appearances so far in the series. I like how the Peacemaker in Chris Kennedy’s story, Curiosity Killed the Pushtal, went about getting things done. Jon R. Osborne has a double winner on his hands, his pair of Peacemakers, Ozar and Qivek. Plus the two humans in his story, Lars Nilsson and Jost. I was intrigued by the life cycle of the Peacemaker in Marisa Wolf’s story, Unforced Errors. I enjoyed reading Shadows in the Key of Fear by William Alan Webb and loved the ending. Mentally I pictured the Peacemaker listening to Another One Bites the Dust.

This universe is very, very ancient full of lost races, technology, and history--both good and bad. As the newer history unfolds in the age of Humanity's entry into the greater universe there is one force of Galactic paladins serving to maintain civility. Representatives selected among the many races, trained in the tools needed to honor the threat, who endure a final test to become Peacemaker. The very least graduate wears an honored name: Peacemaker. Stories unfold that bring tears to my eyes. Some things strike emotional response--justice served is one. Read these stories, you too shall be uplifted.

Set the Terms is a great anthology about Peacemakers. It covers the beginnings of some, the near end of at least one, and the weird, wild adventures of others. This includes two just attempting to repair their craft and another just trying to go fishing during his vacation. We meet old friends like Jessica and Jackson and new ones like Rikki, Tikki and Tavi.

Get on board! You are in for wild adventures. There is much to see and do as we follow these soon-to-be or seasoned Peacemakers. You will not regret it.
