Great ADULT prequel

Firstly i must say..... Melissa Marr is an incredible writer. I read the Wicked Lovely series almost a decade ago and am still doting on it as the best, most immersive Faery tale. So, when years later I read this prequel, I am both unsurprised and awed at her ability to pull me completely in. It is also no surprise that a story centered on Irial, the Dark King, and a mortal he falls for has me in tears. I'm a sucker for pain; though, as this story pulls at all of my heart strings I love it, nontheless.

While the whole premise of this book is very interesting the execution is terrible. The characters are shallow, the writing is repetitive and derivative, plus no one bothered to run it past a proofreader. I couldn’t wait for this boring volume to end, and when it finally did I was shocked to learn the author was a literature professor.... Absolutely NOT recommended.

It's been years since Melissa Marr has added to the Wicked Lovely universe, and what may have started as a passion project for her - a return to the world of Irial and his court - became a truly remarkable addition to the series. I've smiled more and cried more than I have while reading in a long time. It's been an absolute treat to spend time with Irial and Niall again, to remember how much I dislike Keenan, and to see a side of Sorcha I didn't really know. I cannot more strongly recommend this book, and this series. If you were a fan of Ink Exchange, this is 100% a must-read. If I could give it a hundred stars, I would.

Set in New Orleans in the late nineteenth century, this was a lovely story of pure love. The Dark King sees Tam, an independent woman trying to make her own way in a world where women were seen as dependent on men. She knows better than to allow fairies to discover she is sighted, so she carefully ignores them as they swarm around New Orleans. But soon a relationship develops between Tam and the Dark King.

I loved going back to the world of Wicked Lovely, and seeing all the intrigue and politics. And the Dark King has always been one of my favorite characters, so I enjoyed his story.

Everything I didn't know I needed about an Irial prequel!!! OMG I loved it and I loved being able to go back into the Wicked Lovely world before everything became so modern, AND it's set in New Orleans!! Irial was always my favorite but now he's definitely the ultimate! I absolutely loved this book. 5 stars and 2 thumbs way way up.

Another wonderful book in the series. Thelma is a mortal who is the presumed Summer Queen. She attacks the attention of Irial, the Dark King and the story sound from there. I am afraid of giving spoilers. Read it for yourself and enjoy.
