Full disclosure: I was given a copy to read and review for free. I have read one of Gary’s previous books on finance and found that this was mostly all new information. Gary’s advice is no nonsense, straightforward and just what the doctor ordered for our current situation. I read lots of finance books and books on minimalism and frugal living. This is not just a new version of those rather, Gary has his own ideas, developed by years of practice and hard work. Does this read like a scholarly thesis? No. And thank goodness. Gary cuts through the crap and tells you what you need to do to get on the right path to a free living life. Highly recommend this and I look forward to reading more! He’s even got a book on living in an RV!
I just got this book about a week ago and I'm a few chapters in. From reading a few of the author's other books this follows the same concise model. So far I've really liked how he has updated the intro and changed writing styles a little. This is a book that I plan on finishing readying this weekend since I've already briefly reviewed the entire book. My plan is then to sit down and really dissect each chapter to make sure I'm fully getting it, and more importantly, following.
The funny thing about the writer's books is that a lot of the info should be common sense but unfortunately a lot of people have lost some of their common sense these days. Reading his books helps me to refocus when "cultural norms" try to pull me back to my old ways. Reading this book series really has changed my life to the positive. I feel like I'm always a work in progress and these help me get back on track. I do find myself going back to certain sections of the different books when I need a refresher.
Love how Gary brings together straightforward habits that each of us can easily make part of our daily life to get BIG changes in our life. Keeping thing simple is key and just as important, living in the moment. These habits can easily be added to make this happen. Gary is clear and keeps it from becoming overwhelming. I'm excited of the progress I'm making and making it work for me. I am confident that you can also make positive changes by adopting these 14 habits and truly accomplish your goals of a simple & happy life. Thanks Gary for your continued hard work in help folks like me to live the best lift possible without all the garbage that tends to weigh us down. Grateful for this helpful tool, highly recommend, it's a great read!
I’ve always been the kind of person who was very busy with multiple activities. “Multitasking” to me was like breathing - it was just how I did things. When I received this book I was in the midst of an exceptionally busy period, and I had little time to read it. Thus I decided to just read a chapter to get going. I perused the contents, then jumped in and read the chapter “Focus on One Thing at a Time.” Well, just that chapter helped convince me that I was doing things all wrong. The author helped me look at things more objectively and honestly, and thus helped me start to change my life - one little step at a time, by building good habits. This is the goal!
My effort to simplify my life, be more efficient, and gain more control of my time and efforts has already been markedly improved, and I’m just a few chapters into it.
We are creatures of habit - and many of our habits are bad. This book can help you build better habits that will lead to a better life. Get going!
(Full disclaimer - I was provided a digital copy by the author in exchange for an honest review. That said, I would not hesitate to purchase the book and will recommend it to others.)
I love Gary’s no nonsense approach. Maybe it’s my military background, but I like his straight forward approach to everything. This is not the book for people who want to be told they are special and ride unicorns in fantasy land. This is a kick in the butt you need to change book. Like all of Gary’s work.
If you are on the fence, don’t be. If you don’t like it just email Gary and he will give you a refund.
He is honest and straightforward. A rare gem in today’s world.
Gary Collins book The Simple Life Guide to Small Habits for Big Change, not only helps you to develop consistent daily habits but it directs you into becoming a better person by living a life of integrity. My favorite chapter was Keeping it Simple about how you need to figure out what is important to you in this life, not what other people tell you is important. I also appreciate Gary’s advice to “Take Action Today and Every Day.” You do not need to take a monumental action, to begin making a habit and moving forward toward change. I also love how Gary encourages you to “Find your own natural rhythm to living the Simple Life.” Also learning about the “dogma of the grid” has me intrigued about reading further into this new topic for myself. Thank you, Gary, for bringing new ideas to light for me and keeping things simple on my path.
This is a great book on achieving a more simple life! Gary says it best that the difference between the people who dream about it and those who reach their goals is continuous action-and this only comes from forming habits. For me, I have been living outside my financial means at times buying stuff. Unfortunately my stuff owns me at the moment on payments. I will use the habits shared by Gary to prioritize what is important and get ride of the stuff that does not having meaning for me. It will be like getting a pay raise and peace of mind. I challenge you to buy this book and read if you are ready for a more meaningful and simple life.
This is a very simple book from a very real person. I have listened to Gary through other avenues for years and now he as he puts his work to print it’s great because he has lived and done what he says. This is not self help but a guide with real examples on how to live a more complete life for you and by you with a life example on how to do it. Get read it apply it.
This is a great collection of habits you can start implementing to change your life for the better. The author has a down-to-earth style that I appreciate. This book has nice mix of inspiration and nuts-and-bolts mechanics that will help you actually take action to live a better life.
