This is the second book I have read by Nicholson (the first was "A House of a Thousand Candles") and enjoyed that I could not pre-script the plot as I read it. In both books, the 'hero' is less than 'perfect' in the sense that his actions or thoughts are not always crisp, rational, and straight-forward. I enjoy 'conversational' books (the characters either interact with others or are analyzing the situations in their own mind) rather than tedious descriptive sections and this book delivers in that respect. While the book is relatively shallow philosophically and will not offer any substantive intellectual stimulation, it still provided enough nuances to keep me engaged till the end.
