I was given a digital review copy of this book and asked for an honest review. Pretty bold, since I did not care much for the Roles story "Girl's Best Friend" and quite honestly, did not expect much from this collaboration (sorry guys, but you love me for my honesty, right?) Having given you that disclaimer, my review:
Solid Four Stars
This book is very "readable". There are fewer mistakes and errors than I've found in either of their past work and it HELPS so much to have a book reviewed, edited and reviewed. The easier it is for the reader to read, the easier it is to believe the story and get lost in the narrative. Myers and Roles did a great job with that in POD, as such, I finished this in one day, not because I "had to" but because it was good and I wanted to ride it to the finish.
The characters' relationship come off fairly genuine and believable. We all have been part of or know a group of friends like these. Their personalities are consistant.
I normally detest coven stories, werewolves and boogey man type stories, but this had more plot and less witchy magic to keep me interested and moving along.
There was a PLOT! Many Indie horror authors seem to forget that they need to have a plot to support the slash and mud and gore. There is a very distinct plot and is entertaining to boot!
The Bad. I mention this ALL THE TIME when reviewing Indie Authors... The nods to other authors are someone cute, but can detract from the overall story not to mention induce an eye roll here and there.
I could have done without "that scene". It was gratuitous and lent absolutely zero to the book and was rather, um, unrealistic. I feel like it was just tossed in to make it a little raunchier, but just didn't seem to fit the narrative at all for me.
The Ugly I detest this cover. :-) I feel like this book would be represented better by a cover that is more indicavtive of the story inside the cover. I was bracing for a naughty nurse story, but was pleasantly surprised to find an overall solid Coven-Sister-Voodoo-Murder story. Soooo, in this case, I would advise NOT to judge this book by it's cover! :-)
I am the first to say that I am not usually into books like the one I just finished reading but I must say you guys knocked it out of the park! I seriously could not put this book down and loved all the twists and turns that this book produced.
It takes a lot for me to really get into a story and I actually could feel the anticipation as the ladies headed into Old Salem. I can tell you that I did not expect the ending! I CANNOT wait to see what book two has to offer!
Was a very enjoyable story. Not usually into witch stories but this had a good plot. The relationships between the characters was very believable. Love the ending. Also liked that couldn’t tell which author wrote which parts. Very enjoyable. Can’t wait for the next story
Well written and fast paced witchy wonderfulness. From the first page Payable On Death sucked me in and held my attention with it's amazing character development and storyline. Grab a copy, you won't regret it.
hink I may have a crush on a fictional character. Is that a real thing? Yes, I think it is, and I'm kinda in love with Dr. Dani Death. She has just the right amount of bad girl witch combined with the proper amount of kewlness.LOL.. I'm mostly used to reading witches in my cozy stories, so it was refreshing to read a modern day bad girl witch horror. Well, I listened to it.. Normally, I listen at anywhere from 1.6 to 1.8. This one I had to slow down cause the narrator was fast enough to hold my attention. Yes, it's rare for me to rate this kind of story 5 stars, but that's cuz I enjoyed listening to it that much

This is the best coven/witchy story I've read in a while. Even better...it's going to be a series. I had a The Craft (from the 90's) vibe mixed with AHS Coven while reading this. It was perfect! The characters will each draw you in with their personalities and the story line will keep you hooked. I couldn't put this down once I started. Spells (and not beginner magic, these women are not playing around) abound in this story, as well as bitchiness and payback, to set us up looking forward to the next book to see what happens next. I highly recommend this one if you like a good coven story!
