5.0 out of 5 starsI love anthology books! A review of each story so far!
Reviewed in the United States on July 7, 2020
First off I really like anthology books and some of these authors I have really enjoyed.
So I got this to read on its own not just to review a certain author.
Each author was given the same sentence and they got to choose where they took the story. The proceeds from this book are going towards charity.
My reviews of each story... I’ll update as I go...
1. A Meet Cute and Other Natural Disasters by Emma Scott:
I really enjoyed this! It’s a cute read. Almost gives me summer vibes because the main heroine is on vacation in Hawaii. It’s a sweet story, that’s re-telling a story about how the hero and heroine met. (Just know that it’s told from 2 pov’s but doesn’t say when it changes... it just does) and there is a HEA!
2. Something like Kismet by Ginger Scott:
This story was cute but I felt like I just wanted more. It was about a girl in high school who was given a fortune cookie... that makes her decide to take chances. Which lands her in the arms of our Hero. It’s basically told over a weekend. The ending is cute but you don’t really know what happens long term. I just wanted more interaction with these two. It’s a super quick read, so I say...give it a shot!
3. Love at First Fight by K.L Grayson:
I actually enjoyed this story. I thought it was a really quick and sweet one. I really hope the author chooses to extend it so I can see how their relationship would go. It’s about a man who is over his life as a lawyer and moves to a small town, and ends up needing help from our heroine. Don’t wanna say much more because it’s pretty short and it might ruin it. I hope the author turns this into a full story, because it’s a great starting point.
4. First Flight by Jessica Sorensen:
All I’m gonna say is Death Angels!!
Haha read more to find out!
5. Something Wonderful by LK Farlow:
I liked this one! It almost felt longer because the chapters were shorter, but had more of them. It’s a friends-to-enemies-to-lovers, surfer short story. Kind of has “summertime feels”.
6. Opening Up by T.K. Rapp
I’m so conflicted on this one!
It took me a second to get into it but once I did I was so pleasantly surprised. I ended up invested in the characters and the journey along the way! I loved how sweet Evan was to Becca and their friendship and chemistry! The reason I’m conflicted is, the story Had me so sucked in...but it just randomly ended! I wanted more with these two! It just ends with them kissing (I don’t wanna tell you more to ruin the story) then I turn the page and it’s onto a new story! I just wanted to see so so much more of them!! (If I could be making a crying face I would be right now).
Update: the author responded to me and there will be more!! I’m beyond excited for this one!
7. The Ex-Dynamic by S.M Soto
It’s a hockey romance about a couple that loses each other and then comes together again. I started this story thinking one thing then by the end thinking another. I really enjoyed the love we got from the hero and heroine at the end. Plus the ending says “the end, for now” so I’m hopeful there will be more to this one! But boy do I hate Camila’s brother!
8. BOUND: a fae realm short story by
Catalina Shahrary:
So I think I’m going to come back to this after the others. I personally am not a fan of stories that’s aren’t written in the main characters POV... so I’ll read this last. So far it’s about a Girl turned into... Fae and it’s fantasy.
9. Saving Ava Grace by Julie Solano & Tracy Justice:
At first I wasn’t sure how I’d feel about this one. It’s supposed to take place in what seems like a dystopian future... where they are going to kill all life, that is on an island full of prisoners. But it’s not just prisoners on the island it’s their children as well. Our main character falls in love with a girl who was born on that island (one of the prisoners children) and it’s a journey to save her. The story made me so anxious, but in a good way. I actually ended up really liking it... in some ways it may be my favorite because I felt like this could be a full story from beginning to end...
10. The Story by Evan Grace:
This was actually really cute... it’s a cute first date story with a little twist at the end! It’s not a crazy twist at all... I was a little confused at the second chapter, because each chapter had Kara’s name written above it as if Walker’s POV would come up at some point, but it never did. So maybe that means there’s a possibility of a full book... but who knows?
I did enjoy this a lot it’s just short and sweet.
11. Hail Mary by JB Salsbury:
First off so far this is the steamiest of all the stories. It’s a foot ball story where the daughter of the foot ball team peruses the hero to get back at her father who is the coach. It is just the beginning of a soon to be book, coming in fall 2020. It was enjoyable and I am interested in seeing what happens next so most likely I’ll read the full book when it’s out!
11. Whatever it Takes by Gianna Gabriela:
This is an enemies to loves, high school story.
I could easily see this made into a longer story. Im interested in reading more and seeing what happens. The hero ended up being really sweet in the end.
12. Magical Show Down-a demon days, vampire nights short by K.F. Breene:
This isn’t a romance story.. it’s a supernatural/ fantasy world. The story is from a series already happening. So it was just whatever to me. Maybe at some point I’d read the series?
13.Rendezvous Dot Com-a prequel to love dot come by Lilly Wilde:
ATT: I’m gonna start this by saying if you are never okay with any kind of cheating in a story no matter what. then you should skip this one!! I didn’t think I’d enjoy this as much as I did. It’s not really a love story in my opinion. This story has the CRAZY wife meeting the mistress (that I can’t get into because it will ruin the story) but it is mostly about when a relationship has run it’s course but no one seems to want to end it. I will probably end up reading the actual book since this is just a prequel to Nia’s actual love story! So I’m exited to see what comes next!
14. Interception by Santana Blair:
So I read the first chapter of this one, and then skimmed through it a bit. I just can’t commit to stories that aren’t written in the main characters POV. Essentially this is about a girl who likes one football player, but another football player on his team is gonna help her get the date... I think you know what’s going to happen here? This type of story is a little played, out for me anyways.
15. The Bribe by Devney Perry:
So this isn’t as much of a short story as it is the beginning of a soon to be book. I looked on the authors instagram and she said it will be out in October! The heroine is about to change her career (which is a secret until the end of this “short story”) and she’s hiking with a friend, she gets lost and a police officer helps her out...before she leaves to start her new life. I can’t really say too much more. The book seems like it will be a cute and fun small town romance, and I can’t wait until it comes out!
Update: This book will be out October 15 under her new pen name Willa Nash!
16. Leap of Faith by Jaci Wheeler:
This story is very hard to write a description for... its starts with a man who attempts suicide, but is saved by a navy seal. It is a story about friendship, Loving yourself and creating your own family. It’s narrated which I’ve stated I don’t usually like but in this story it kind of works! It’s a full story with an epilogue! I definitely recommend this one! It’s so different then anything I’ve ever read.
17. Spy’s Heart- a fantasy and fairytale story by M. Lynn:
It’s a fantasy story about a spy who gets caught by the man she loves. It was narrated and I couldn’t get past it this time. I only read the first chapter of this one. If you like fantasy you may enjoy this one.
18. 8°F by Debra Anastasia:
I’m pretty sure this is a start to a full length book. It doesn’t state that but it seems that way. It’s an action book with assassins. It’s about a girl who is ready to die after finding out who murdered her sister. She’s almost ready to give up when she decides to save this teacher from getting in with the assassins. It’s kind of hard to explain... but if action sounds good to you.. then read this one. I’m indifferent about it to be honest...
19. Kess by Tijan:
This story takes place in a world that the author has other books about (I didn’t know this until the end). It’s a Mc story. It could be a stand alone story all on its own, but I’d also enjoy seeing more. It is a romance story, it was really quick and I felt like there was a lot of room to expand. If you’ve read any other books in the “crew series” This could add to your experience. I hope this turns into a full length though.
20. Set Fire to The Sky by A.L. Jackson:
This seems like a full short story. I have read other books by A.L Jackson and I enjoyed them so I was looking forward to her story.
This short story is a romance between a fire fighter and the women he has saved! Just keep in mind it is very quick... but there is a pretty good steamy scene and good chemistry between the two main characters. Also there is a cute dog that brings them together.
21. Kick Off- the Harris family beginnings by Amy Daws:
This isn’t as much of a short story as it is a prequel to a series. It’s a story about love, loss, and family. It’s very much a love at first sight in the beginning and then changes into more. It also had some Football (soccer) thrown in.
22. Call Me Heather by BB Easton:
I don’t wanna say too much and ruin this story but I will say it’s a steamy short story with some “fatal attraction” vibes. There were definitely points when I was like “what the eff!!” I kind of wish there was more!
23. The Deal-a dark romance short story by Aleatha Romig:
This was one of the ones I was looking forward to most, because it seemed like there were so many reviews about this one! The short story was nothing like I thought based on the tittle. It’s a mafia/arranged marriage story. If you enjoy this one as much as I did you can preorder the full length “devils deal” right now!
24. Saint by: Colleen Hoover:
WARNING: if you are not okay with cheating don’t read this one. This is a romance/suspense/thriller (sort of). I can’t really explain how I feel after reading it... definitely a lot of emotions I may have to come back to write about later. This story give me slight “swim fan” vibes.
I can tell Colleen Hoover is a good write after reading this and I may actually give some of her books a try.
I defiantly recommend this anthology... every story is so different and there is something in there for everyone!
