Better than Omni 1! (One trip down and loving it!)
Reviewed in the United States on October 18, 2021
My puppy chewed off the zipper of my existing Samsonite carry-on, and with a trip less than a week away, I had to find a new one that matched my existing set.
I think I had the Omni 1 before, so this one had a few noticeable differences from its predecessor that I’ll outline.
The wheels roll more easily. The other suitcase rolled ok, but now that I’ve seen these in action, they’re a huge improvement, and I’d take these over those easily.
I was horrified taking this out of the box at how small it was: how would it fit everything? But after unzipping the expansion zipper and packing everything up, it was able to fit a long weekend’s worth of clothing, including platform Doc Martin’s (even chunkier than a typical pair!!!), a pair of flats, and some ankle booties. As an overpacker, I will admit that I packed my toiletry roll in my husband’s checked bag, along with a few “nice to have” pieces of clothing that I could have gone without. I fit everything else I needed in my carry-on bag and overall was shocked at how much this seemingly smaller bag could actually hold in such a slim profile! It was very similar in size (if not slightly smaller) than my previous suitcase, but I think they may have found a way to reduce the thickness of the plastic and the size of the suitcase while keeping the packing space the same.
Gone are the days of fighting the handle to go up or down! If I press the button and let go, it drops into place. I can also press the button and adjust the height of the handle. Before, it would jam slightly and was less smooth to operate, which is a huge deal in a busy airport.
A USB PORT (if that’s your thing)
It also has a rubber stopper on top of the suitcase, which covers a USB port (female). The USB has a wire inside of the suitcase with a USB plug (male) that you can put into your power bank (not included) so you can charge small electronics. There’s a generously-sized pouch for the power bank inside of the suitcase, and basically, this whole contraption functions as a way to charge your phone with a USB power bank, without needing to pull the bank out of your suitcase. It’s a little unnecessary for me, but it doesn’t take away from any of the space and could come in handy at some point, potentially on a longer trip where I don’t have an outlet in the airport to recharge my phone.
I do miss the zipper pocket on the separator that my previous suitcase had, but all in all, this is a better product…just don’t tell my dog that she did me a favor by forcing me to upgrade ;)
