I am reading the Soul Sisters at Cedar Mountain Lodge series in order. So far, this is my favorite of the series. That is stating a lot, since I love each and every book I have read in this series.

I believe this is my favorite since I am drawn to older people, rather than young ones. Maddie and her mother are a delight to read about, and to state the obvious, without Maddie opening her wounded heart to adopt four young girls, the other stories would not exist.

In book one, we are introduced to Maddie, who lost her loving husband and young daughter (10 years old) in an auto accident. Instead of living in sorrow, she found that helping others helped heal her own life.

In this book, which is 15 years after that first special Christmas when the "soul" family was formed, we read about the family's meeting at the lodge. It is a wonderfully magically Christmas, where they all find a soul mate to add to the family unit. After so many years of Maddie living her life for her girls and her mom, she discovers that the time is perfect for heart to open to romance.

I enjoyed this book so much, and also the entire series.

I so wasn’t prepared for what was ahead in Book 4 of the Soul Sisters at Cedar Mountain Lodge. Yes, this is Maddie’s story, yet Claire and her never ending debacles had me in fits of laughter on more than one occasion. I can picture Betty White playing the character of Claire when the Soul Sisters series are made into a Hallmark or Lifetime movie (I can dream right?!). This was my first full novel I’ve read of Violet Howe’s and I’m hooked. She wrote in such clarity that I was able to visualize every moment, whether it was simple lounging in pajamas or enjoying the ever beautiful mountains of Idaho. With Maddie becoming my hero in the first book, Christmas Sisters, this fourth book, Christmas Hope, sealed the deal for me. I mean, who doesn’t love home baked warm peanut butter cookies?! Seriously though, Maddie brings the meaning of hope into her life head-on showing us we should all live with the “gift of hope” in our own lives. I thoroughly enjoyed Christmas Hope, Soul Sisters at Cedar Mountain Lodge Book 4 written by Violet Howe and highly recommend it.

In this book, we see the wedding weekend through the eyes of Maddie, the adoptive mother of four girls. As the girls return home to Granite Ridge for Alissa’s Christmas Eve wedding at the Cedar Mountain Lodge, Maddie realizes that traditions must change as the girls grow and make their own way in life. Maddie learns to laugh. She slowly learns to put herself first. She learns to transition to parenting adults, how much advice to give and when to step back. Maddie also learns to let the walls down that she has built to protect her heart. If you choose to be vulnerable and let someone in, you might just find you have room to love again.
The character of Maddie really resonated with me. As the adoptive mother of four boys, I know the overwhelming amount of time and love it takes to overcome the ghosts of our children’s past. As our children grow, how they need us changes and it is not always easy to step away and let them learn to adult on their own. But our adult children are our hope for the future.

This was another great addition to the Cedar Mountain Lodge series. Can't wait to read book 5.
