How customer reviews and ratings work

Customer Reviews, including Product Star Ratings help customers to learn more about the product and decide whether it is the right product for them.

To calculate the overall star rating and percentage breakdown by star, we don’t use a simple average. Instead, our system considers things like how recent a review is and if the reviewer bought the item on Amazon. It also analyzed reviews to verify trustworthiness.

You as a writer didn't do her any favors. You needed to write as a non human. You make her cry too much. If she is going to be a non human toughen her up. Her nature is to behead not create a damn zombie family. Infuriating.

1.0 out of 5 starsWhy did I pay money for this???
Reviewed in the United States on July 15, 2021
Don’t waste your money. I really was excited to read this. It sounded good, had good reviews, and Sounded like it would have a new “world” for me to explore.
By the end I hated the lead female, I have no clue what the lead guy sees in her, and don’t really care about any of the characters, there was virtually no story progression and it ended on a cliff hanger. But I honestly don’t even car nor do I wonder what will happen. The entire book is just the heroine talking about the male lead. I can never be with him, but he’s so hot, I don’t want kids, I want to sleep with him, I never want to get married, but I think I will kiss him and have a one night stand with him, no I can’t do that it will ruin our friendship….on and on it went. I felt like I was reading a preteens diary. There was basically no story (the parts with actual story could have fit in one chapter) just never ending internal dialogue about how she can’t be with this guy but wants to have sex with him. I began skimming the book, page after page of this same thing. I actually was hoping a monster would just eat her and someone else would become the story lead so she would shut up.
I am so disappointed and wish I hadn’t wasted good money on this book.

2.0 out of 5 stars Clever concept, but plot lost in the romance
Reviewed in the United States on July 23, 2021

Clever premise that will keep me reading into the second book. The romance is a little too much. They are all angst and goo goo eyes. Makes it feel like a teen romance. Their conversations are repetitive and don't move the plot long much, but dominate the story. In fact, the plot is pretty thin and could use some major focus. Hoping this is a function of it being book 1.

5.0 out of 5 stars Great book

This book took me by surprise. I haven't read the author's other work. Just wasn't on my radar. But I came across this one and the description looked promising even though I'm not usually a fan of Fae.

Then I started the book a bit annoyed because it seemed to just start in the middle of the story. And very few authors can pull that off successfully. Then the next I know I'm laughing out loud, and gasping and crying and... if a book can make me run through a full spectrum of emotions in less than 280 pages and stay up all night reading the sequels-- it's a 5 star book.

And this one is also a 5 star romance.

5.0 out of 5 stars Captivating story

Interesting story about draugur, vampire type creatures and the witches who summon them. I really liked the concept of necromancy and instead of it being evil there is a purpose to it. Interesting female lead who is snarky, independent and yet sympathetic to those she raises from the dead. Slowly we are given small amounts of information as to the power and control being wielded by this more than a witch. I like Eli, he reminds me of a knight of old defending his lady from those that want to harm her. Being fey and gorgeous helps too but his dedication is sexy as hell. I am looking forward to the next book as this one has left me wanting more.

5.0 out of 5 stars Good writing, likeable characters, plenty of action

Never read anything by this author before I read her novella in Hex on the Beach. I liked that so much, I wanted to read the first in the series. I've been disappointed in a bunch of the new authors I have tried lately - misspellings, using the wrong homonyms, (breaks in cars instead of brakes, that sort of thing), poor grammar, unfinished sentences, logic breaks, poor segues, even with prolific authors. It was such a relief and pure enjoyment to read a book that was tightly plotted, no holes, lots of action, no gaps, sufficient information provided to be able to follow the world without a full-on info-dump, and characters that made you LIKE them. Also, Genevieve's swears are hilarious! She gets points for creativity from me. This one fits into the All Slaying, No Laying category too, so if you don't want any explicit romance, you are good. There is romance, but it's slow burn and keeps you intrigued. I promptly ordered the next book, and the first one in another series by this author, even though it was YA.

5.0 out of 5 stars Loved it!

I loved the book and can’t wait to read the next in the series. I haven’t read any by Melissa Marr before, so it was a delight to find a new-to-me author whose writing I enjoy. I love a good Urban Fantasy, and with this cast of characters and deft world building, this definitely makes my list. The story is about a badass woman, Genevieve, who supports herself by beheading the dead (new twist on vampires), a super-sexy fae love interest, Eli, and her three best friends, all wrapped up in a mystery/murder investigation. Along the way, tidbits about personal histories are revealed, and the dialog that flows between characters is snappy, snarky, and a lot of fun. I've already pre-ordered the sequel.

The Wicked and the Dead is book 1 of the Fairy Bargains series. A really great, fast-paced, action-packed storyline with great character relationships and wonderful surprises. Gen and Eli make a great couple and the set up for the next book in the series has me eagerly awaiting book two.

4.0 out of 5 stars a different mix of undead and other stuff.

An amazingly well-developed world of witch and undead and faerie and human and a woman somehow a mix of some of all this while trying to keep the citizens and tourists of New Orleans alive. Whew. It took me awhile to truly get a feel for the plot but enjoyed the bumpy ride right along with the heroine and crew of friends.

Story is ok. One feels cheated once you realize this is basically a vampire book with a new name and twist. Book just ends. Part of series that to me is overpriced.
