5.0 out of 5 starsLOST!!!

Getting lost anywhere is lousy. One wrong turn can take you miles out of the way especially in unfamiliar surroundings and you might never find your way back. So just imagine being lost in the woods with no cell phone service, dead car battery, and almost no food and water. That is what makes the new book “One by One” by Frieda McFadden so terrifying and all absorbing. Three couples on the way to a vacation hotel become lost in the woods. There may be all sorts of insects, some poisonous, wild animals, rain and heat with no shelter. The author makes you feel like you are really there and on top of it all weird things start happening to the three couples and I could not do anything else while I was reading this book. There is a completely unexpected, not see coming twist at the end. I recommend this book to anyone who enjoys a fast moving thriller.

I thought I had found another quality author of psychological thriller, one who impeccably plotted books, with logical and plausible stories. This book is a sad exception. The story is so preposterous. Six people that lost in the forest for days (in a North -American wood, with roads, cabins and inns, not in the depths of the Amazon jungle). Among them, an insane couple of murderers who were planning a revenge on another couple based on very flimsy motives.. The third couple dies in the wood, killed by the two murderers, for no discernible reason. The whole story is so preposterous, which, was considering the quality of the books of this author, , it’s really irritating.. It is well written, which makes it even more irritating.

Another great book by Freida McFadden

What can I say but I love Freida McFadden's books and this one was right up there with the rest...well almost. I have yet to read a book by this author that I don’t love. Her writing style alone is so engaging and her characters so vivid that once I start reading one of her books I can’t put it down. This book was no different. Her books are written as if a friend is telling you an engaging story. And the twist was great, as they always are. If you like a story with a shocking turn you will definitely need to read this one! However, i wasn't a big fan of the entire book centering around them being in the woods....for me that was a little boring....also the fact they couldn't find their way out...hmmmm for three days...that was a little unbelievable. But all in all a good book with a very nice twist indeed!

Three couples are lost in the woods after the car breaks down on the way to a week away at a resort. One by one, the deaths begin. Who's next? Who's the killer? Who will be left alive? Once again Frieda McFadden has come up with a well written thriller. The characters are nicely developed and there are enough twists in the plot to keep you wondering what's going to happen next. If you enjoy reading psychological thrillers, you'll like this book.

Unfortunately, I am usually that person that TRIES to figure out the whodunnit as I’m reading, but I’m guessing I’m not alone. With this one, I figured out 50% of it but the remaining 50% was just incredible and took me by total surprise!!

I’m not going to rehash the plot of the book since you’ve probably already read what it’s about, but the characters are so fleshed out in this short book that I felt like I knew them. Claire, the main character, has a great sense of humor that pops up at just the right times.

This review could be extremely long with all the praises I could extol OR I could make it short and sweet and just say you will not be disappointed in this Freida McFadden book. Do not mistake it for the book of the exact same name by Ruth Ware, which was convoluted, very predictable, hard to follow and the many characters were impossible to keep straight.

“One By One” by Freida McFadden is awesome! An exciting, hard-to-figure-out thriller!

Another great book by this author. The story follows a woman names Claire who goes on a getaway trip w her husband Noah, bff Lyndsay & boyfriend, and her husbands bff Jack & wife. They get lost though and one by one they all start dying and\or disappear. Someone or something is hunting them as they try to navigate their way to safety. The present is interspersed occasionally w chapters of an anonymous persons past which lends some creepy hints. It was pretty good if not a few times "how can they not tell" and when things come to light, why don't they carry on w that knowledge. One thing that wasn't explained or that maybe I missed, was the way everyone was sleeping so soundly; the husband said he tasted something chalky in one water but what about later w the second night? I probably missed it but I'm curious. That aside, I loved the whole murder mystery angle that was very reminiscent of Agatha Christie stories. It was fun making guesses and then seeing if I was right!

5.0 out of 5 stars I would have never survived

What a thrill ride!! I absolutely adore Freida McFadden and it’s always a good time with her. She’s such an amazing creative and One By One is incredible! It’s fast paced and keeps you on your toes. Even though the ending seems a bit far fetched (the reason why it’s not a complete 5 stars for me), i enjoyed every bit of it and absolutely devoured it in less than a day. So good!

Claire and Noah Matchett, once happily married and in love, are a bit on the outs and on the door step of divorceville. But at the present moment, they’re taking a trip together with a couple of friends and their significant others. The six of them are headed to a weeks’ worth of vacationing including hiking and perhaps a bit of fishing. But when the van they’re driving breaks down in the middle of nowhere, and without any cell reception, they decide to hike the rest of the way to the hotel. Along the way they become more and more lost and trouble in creases as their group becomes smaller - one by one. What kind of monster lies in the trees taking the group out one person at a time and who, if anyone, will survive?

Another wonderful thriller by Freida McFadden. Had to read straight through - it was that kind of page-turner. She described her characters in such a way that they were real to me. The locations were very realistic as well, and I could almost touch and smell the surroundings. The ending was subtle. I felt it could have been more heart pounding during the reunion with the children part, but I understand the quiet jab. Onto her next book. I will be sad when I run out.

5.0 out of 5 stars Great Suspenseful Read

This was the second of three books by Freida McFadden that I’ve read. As with the other two (The perfect son, The wife upstairs) I loved it. I read about 50+ books a year and not always do I enjoy the experience. Sometimes the stories make for labored reading, where I feel as though I want to finish it solely because I already started it. With the titles I’ve read by McFadden so far, I never got that feeling. I was flying through the pages genuinely wanting to find out more and discover the next plot twist. In One by One, I kept visualizing the characters and wondering what secrets they were hiding. It was suspenseful, smart, and just fun to read. Without giving too much away I will end with this: Nothing is what it seems! 😁

I hike a lot and have been on some very rough trails
I have gotten turned around many times(always with someone) and have been scared that we wouldn't find our way back. Some readers said it was too unbelievable to get out of the car and start walking. I almost didn't read it because of their reviews. I'm so glad I ignored their reviews because this book was very hard to put down,I absolutely loved it. Every time I thought I knew something I was wrong.

This book was definitely one of the best I’ve read in a long time. Friends decide to go on a weeks vacation. But…as suspected, things start to go wrong. Car dies, they get lost, people begin disappearing. I read this entire book in two night.Stayed up extra late because I couldn’t put it down. And best of all, unexpected ending. That’s always the best thing, not being able to figure it out beforehand. Can’t wait to read more from this author.
