Babies on loan at a library. Humph! Weird rules about who and how many can reproduce in a dystopian dysfunctional world where the men don’t suffer or get held accountable when they break the reproductive rules. This series is very profound.
I had no idea what to expect from this short story, but I love Roxane Gay, so I figured it would be worth a quick read. Absolutely amazing! The ability to build such a fully realized world in so few pages is truly a gift. The characters are well drawn and the story intriguing.
This was so good! I was sucked into this world quickly and felt consumed by it. Wonderfully written and with such an interesting world created, I'd love to see what was next for Hadley. Recommend this and also the audio was brilliantly narrated.
It’s haunting, unpredictable and exhilarating all at once, especially as a new mother who has dealt with miscarriage and infant loss. This is a beautiful dedication to motherhood, or rather, parenthood.

Listening time is about 45 minutes. Around a quarter of the way through, I forgot it was a short story and was anticipating the narrator stating "Chapter 2". I really think this could be turned into a full length novel if Ms. Gay was so inclined.
When I started reading this I thought it was just another unhappy woman not yet growing into herself, then the futuristic setting was revealed. I pray every day that we women never allow anyone else to ever determine our worth. Our reproductive choices must remain each individual woman’s right! Period!
