I read many of the reviews that were negative. After reading other books about WW11 and the concentration camps. I believe every word. Lyle is just trying stay alive to wake up the next day. He learned how to work the system. The Germans treated these prisoners horribly. Our book club also read The Lilac Girls by Martha Hall Kelly. That book gives you an idea of the of women at Ravensbruck who were used as guinea pigs for surgeries and left with both physical and mental scars. Our society is trying to forget this happened. It can happen again if we are not careful.
