How customer reviews and ratings work

Customer Reviews, including Product Star Ratings help customers to learn more about the product and decide whether it is the right product for them.

5.0 out of 5 starsAbsolutely Beautiful ❤️
Reviewed in the United States on July 15, 2020
This is the first children's book I've read that put tears in my eyes. We read this with our 3.5 year old, and he made the effort to pronounce each beautiful name along with us. I just kept thinking how he will likely have people mispronounce his name, his brother's, and how I've had mine...and how this book will help him appreciate how special each name is.
Parents agonize over naming their babies, and nothing hurts more than having your child's beautiful name butchered or mocked.
From those of us with non-anglo names and cultures, thank you!
For those of you with Anglo names, this book is so important to add to your child's library!

I attempted to read this digital book to my students this year however the book would not load on any of the 4 devices that I tried. Chromebook, Macbook, Kindle Cloud Reader or my iPhone. I kept getting error messages. Have heard so much about this great book, so sad that I cannot get the kindle version to work.

5.0 out of 5 stars Magical and breathtaking book

Between the poetic writing and the breathtaking art, this book is one of our favorite books of all time. My children love hearing it, and have enjoyed learning how to pronounce some new-to-them name along with the author (there's a link listed in the back of the book that takes you to a video of her pronouncing each of the beautiful names in the book). A MUST HAVE for all families, teachers, and caregivers!

3.0 out of 5 stars Great, diverse book, used in elementary music class
Reviewed in the United States on December 30, 2020

I tried using this in my elementary music class. I think the concept is great, and I love that it is a book about names from around the world, and showcases a young, black girl. I think it is important to make sure books in the classroom has a selection of diverse characters. However, I wanted kids to be able to create a name song themselves, and wish this book had a sort of activity at the end. I've tried having kids create a name song like in the book, but it's 50/50. Some classes totally get it, and some classes are bored by the end of the book.

I love every word of this book. I love how the author intentionally chose the names, I love the story, the illustrations, the feeling I was left with... Ive always loved names, they are a huge part of who we are, and now I find a little more magic and meaning behind each new name I encounter. I can’t wait to share this with my class.

Love love love this books. As an adult women who struggled with having an uncommon name I could relate. Every educator should share this book especially in the beginning of the school year. It’s a wonderful message about the importance of our names and that every name should be pronounced proudly and sand like a song!

1.0 out of 5 stars Can’t load it to my device

I purchased the book based on wonderful reviews from teachers I respect. Unfortunately, it’s incompatible with my iPad and iPhone Kindle reader apps. I ended up returning it because I can’t show it to my students with my Kindle Oasis. The screen is too small for class and I really wanted the color artwork. It’s extremely disappointing. Also, I bought it at a good discount and when I returned it a few hours later, the price had already jumped $2! Sad.

5.0 out of 5 stars A very cute book with a very important message

This is a great book for kids who have names other people struggle (or just don't even try) with, to increase their confidence to stand up for their names and teach others how to say it properly. This is also good for kids who have common names, to teach them that just because another person's name sounds different than what they're used to hearing, it's still a beautiful name and you should say it correctly. Honestly, I know a few adults who could use this book!

I especially love that the author included a glossary of the names mentioned in the book, including their origins and meanings. All the names featured are so beautiful, it's lovely to have further education on them.

3.0 out of 5 stars Great story.

I like the story so much and am planning a lesson with it for next week. I wanted to download the book to my MacBook Air kindle so I could display it in my class. It will not let me . The book shows up but I contacted apple and amazon support and there must be a glitch as this book is not able to be viewed on a kindle. I would love to download this later if this glitch is fixed. I am so disappointed as I was going to show this lesson straight from my kindle to show the story while reading it.
