Colorado, in the 1860's wasn't what you'd called settled and peaceful. When the Sheriff received word that his mother, residing in Seebee, had died, he knew he had to go back to not only settle her estate, but find out what caused her death. Leaving his Deputy Billy in charge, the long Journey begsn. What he doesn't know will be the greatest test of his law career. He picks up a companion on his way, A stray puppy, he names Charlie. He continues his journey aboard Soot, his dependable horse and carrying Charlie keeping him warm. Upon arrival, he checks in with the Sheriff and finds out his mother had been murdered by someone, identity unknown. Vengeance settled in his heart and he starts investigating on his own. That would make sense if he finally could come up with a reason why his mother had been killed by a bullet. As you read the entire book, you'll find out what and who was behind more than just the murder of his mother. Great read and just a little bit more of history as it happened in the 19th Century in the unsettled old west. You're going to see how life brings fruition to loss, how people find love in the strangest places and how towns and their citizens want the peace and law enforcement established in their towns.
