Painfully Frustrating & Unoriginal
Reviewed in the United States on September 19, 2020
I think the main issue with this show is the length. In order for an episode to be nearly 90mins long, both detectives have to be pretty slow- and they are. McDonald spends the whole time frowning and yelling while having to ask Dodds what's going on all the time, and while Dodds is cute, sweet, and smart (the only reason why this gets 2 stars and not one), he has a habit of giving away key facts to suspects, forcing the investigation to further derail (which is necessary to make these cases last 90 flippin' minutes). Dodds is too smart for the idiotic mistakes they have him make, and you wonder how McDonald got so far in her line of work while her main talents seem to be complaining about her boyfriend, having breakdowns, being cruel to her partner Dodds and then not apologizing, and going to the gym. I badly wanted to like this show and wanted it to be good, but the characters are painfully slow so they can make the episodes frustratingly long, and it just falls short of being a good watch.
Pros: Great intro with beautiful music that continues throughout, pretty overhead views of Bath, and Dodds is interesting and amusing when he isn't making ridiculous mistakes that are out of character.
