It feels unfinished

I didn’t want to like this book because I felt book three left me hanging but it grew on me. Unfortunately this one feels unfinished to me also. The storyline is good but Because of the way this series is written I can’t recommend them.

I read the entire four book series because we vacation on Nantucket most years. I was looking for references to familiar sites, streets and restaurants. There are barely any. Furthermore, the author refers to Nantucket as an island off of Maine. This is totally incorrect; it is off of Massachusetts! That lack of attention to detail turned me off a bit. The characters are interesting. Their relationships and how they grow are fairly well developed. These are very “quick read books” so if you’re looking for a fast distraction, these might be the right books for you.

I would have liked the book better if the proofreading/fact checking dept. did their job! The author used to live in the northeast so why the big typo? Huge! Nantucket is located in Massachusett NOT Maine! Arrgh!

Enjoyed the story line. But, if you are setting the story on Nantucket, at least get the location of the island correct. Nantucket is 30 miles off the coast of Massachusetts not Maine as stated in the story line. Very disappointing.

No Love Like Nantucket: Sweet Island Inn Book 4 is by Grace Palmer. This book slightly changes gears and deals with Henry’s sister, Toni. Toni has been married to Jared and lives off-island. However, her heart has remained on Nantucket.
Toni has a weird feeling about her marriage, something is different but she can’t figure out what. She would like to surprise Jared with weekend get-away on the 4th of July weekend. She knows he doesn’t like surprises so she had talked to him about going away and he agreed. She had made all the arrangements and now was headed home to catch him at lunch with an ice cream cake shaped like a cabin. However, her plans were dashed as was the cake when she arrived to find Jared in a compromising position with his secretary, Heather. Her marriage, her dreams were smashed. Knowing she had to get away before saying something horrible, she left the house and headed for the airport and Nantucket.
The story changes at this point and alternates between the events in 2000 and eighteen years later in 2018. Now the event that changes things is her brother’s death. Henry died in a storm while he was fishing. Now Toni and her sister-in-law, Mae, are left with the grief. Toni made a decision to leave Nantucket and leave the inn in Mae’s hands. She headed to the airport and purchased a one-way ticket to Buenos Aires, Argentina. Maybe she can restart her life so she can return and handle everything.

I liked the story in general, especially as it is an older couple romance story that doesn't read too unrealistic. I did not like the back and forth of the chapters. It sounds like she resolves her issues with the cheating husband and makes her new life and then on the current time she goes off to Portugal because he asks her to stay in Argentina with him? She had resolved nothing! All those early time chapters were a drag and unnecessary. She hung up on the husband to start her new life but we never know how that got resolved; later she still has not let that go? Also, she falls apart at her brother’s death & leaves the widow to take care of her inn while she goes halfway down the world? And the author never introduces the brother? He is a cartoon!

Not a huge fan of books that switch back and forth from one time and place to another, enough so that I usually deduct a star. Not this time. Getting to know Toni was somewhat disturbing since she appears to be a woman full of angst most of the time and no matter what the circumstances. In spite of these things, I hung on every word while living through her journey. A well written, fascinating read!

Toni's journey was an alright read but after she finds her husband with another women and she leaves him. She goes forward taking time for herself in another country. She meets new people and spends a few months away from home and meets a nice man, then runs from him. Mean while we bounce back home to the time before Toni left her home. Then we go back to her life in the other country with the nice man and new friends and we continually bounce from the past to the future then back to the past. And you never find out what happened to the nice man she met in the other country.

I normally love all of Grace Pamer's novels 5 stars. But this one is a departure from our Mae Benson female lead and is instead several years early with Toni Benson and how the Sweet Island Inn on Nantucket came to be in the first place.
Sweet Island was founded out of heartbreak, so no wonder Mae Benson in the present-day novels continues to struggle with holding it all together while trying to tamper family drama.
