The Fae Side of Forty
By Jennifer L. Hart
@midlife
I just love this series! Magical Midlife Misadventures by Jennifer L. Hart is a delightful read of an over forty woman trying to come to terms with her life. The Fae Side of Forty is the second book in this series. I donโ€™t know how many books there will be; but it doesnโ€™t matter as each escapade has closure.

Here are a few of my thoughts
โ€ขRead and enjoy. I didnโ€™t have to think too hard
โ€ขBe careful with whatever you may be drinking as you may slobber when you laugh out loud
โ€ขKeep in mind that Fae may not be able to out and out lie; but they can will withhold pertinent information which Iโ€™m thinking is the same thing as lying
โ€ขFae are tricksters and they excel at it
โ€ขEach chapter is headed with a Notable Quotable from Grammy B. God love her! And I do!
โ€ขSo much innuendo!
โ€ขThese Magical Midlife Misadventures are exactly that with a just enough magic to make you want more. Just like chocolateโ€ฆ

My advice is to just kickback and enjoy the read. Just like a Calgon commercialโ€ฆ โ€œCalgon take me awayโ€. Remember those? Never mind. Unless you are well over forty youโ€™ll have no idea what Iโ€™m talking about.

3.0 out of 5 starsVery disappointing ending
Reviewed in the United States ๐Ÿ‡บ๐Ÿ‡ธ on April 30, 2021
This 2-book series was my first by this author. Book 1 was riveting enough that I immediately ordered book 2. And more than halfway through book 2 I was still riveted. Even though Robin's storyline had taken a turn that had me captivated, I felt like things really started unraveling about halfway through - compounded by the fact that Joey just kept getting more and more wishy-washy with every sentence . The story had the most disappointing ending! (Spoiler Alert)...seriously, after what the entire family just went through, they just carry on as if nothing happened?! And the characters are just going to let all the magic drift away on the wind?! (come on ... what human would actually let that happen?) And who is ruling the Fae world now? The ending just fell flat with so many unresolved issues and unanswered questions. Even if there was a book 3, I was done after book 2. I didn't even keep these two books for my library after the way the series ended.

5.0 out of 5 stars Midlife magic!

I absolutely adore this authors writing style no matter the genre so far I Iโ€™m just smitten with her work! This midlife paranormal series is no different. Joey is a jaded midlifer who wanted to go back and change her accident that ended her career. She made a deal with the Fea Prince Robyn in book one. This is book two and sheโ€™s awaiting for him to arrive to finish the deal. What she isnโ€™t prepared for is the major surprises headed her way and all the family drama that goes with it. And like most people everyone has an opinion to share with her. She struggles to believe in her self and not let others color her choices for her. This book has the ever present fight between good and evil but also includes person growth, closure and love but not in a sugary sweet way. I love seeing Joey find her back bone and finally following her own path. Gramma Bs notable quotables are hilarious and you might even start to feel for Robyn. Loved the progression and heart this story has! Such a wonderful job!

Editing to add the narrator did phenomenal

5.0 out of 5 stars Robin oh Robin...

It took me a bit longer to read this book, but it was another amazing read! Joey is back in her own timeline after book 1 and waiting for Robin to show up after his 'threat' at the end of book 1. It was great to read about Joey and her family again. And Robin.. oh.. Robin. Handsome fae prince.

I cannot divulge too much because of spoilers. But I can say that book 2 tugged at my heartstrings for Robin. It is revealed what happened to him in the period since he struck his last bargain with Joey and it was so not what I expected. But it lead to a wonderful story of accepting love, keeping your values and how Joey is such a smart woman!

One thing: the term 'middle-aged woman' was thrown about a lot (a lot lot haha). I must say that I did not feel middle-aged at that age at all! I had a young child and did not feel old or saggy. Don't you know 50 is the new 40?! :-)

Iโ€™ll start my review with a quote that will tell you a lot: โ€œโ€ฆhad I fallen into another sort of trap? One where I let other people tell me who I was instead of being myself?โ€

I hadnโ€™t even read a whole page and I was wiggling in my seat with excitement; this is so good. A bit of healthy sarcasm, a whole lotta laughs and a magical story made this the perfect escape for me. Fun, lighthearted and well-written!

A fae prince who has his own agenda and who technically canโ€™t lie, but knows how to lie without actually lying. Manipulate the truth in his favor. This book was crazy good. It was also crazy full stop. LOL I love a bit of crazy in my books. What a fun read, truly one of the best books Iโ€™ve read this year!

As much as I loved Over the Faery Hill, the first in the magical Midlife Misadventures, The Fae Side of Forty, the second and newest book in the series, captivated me even more! Jennifer L. Hartโ€™s book are always winners in my book.
It is time for Robin to show up and claim his side of the bargain. Joey is terrified of what may happen next but there is a part of her that has fallen for the trickster fae prince and looks forward to his arrival. By no stretch of the imagination can Joey begin to guess what her twist to their last bargain has done to Robin. If she had a clue, she would be terrified to face him, but the Robin who shows up confuses and attracts her more than before. Robin stole my heart even more in this newest book in the series, and I loved the development in Joeyโ€™s character.

I absolutely LOVED this series by Jennifer Hart! Her characters are relatable and so clever with their descriptions and comebacks that I literally laughed out loud several times. If you like a great story line with a not-so-perfect leading lady, and a touch of fae magick, this is a series for you! I thoroughly enjoyed both books in this series, to the point where I read them both within 2 days. Dive into this series today, you won't regret it!

In this book Robin wants Joey to pretend to be engaged to him to trap his mother. I think it's hilarious how everyone can see how he feels about her except her. I love this series by Jennifer L. Hart. I couldn't put it down.

These books have been hard for me to review. The mortal characters are flawed, the heroine middle aged and frumpy. The fae characters are physically beautiful but with flawed characters and a set of rules that still aren't clear. There's a lot of living inside the head of the heroine , and the story seems not quite complete. Despite all of that, the worst part of the book is the dozens if typos and wrong usage that completely disrupts the flow of the story. I've read several books by this author and they're all full of them .
