When it comes to witches and female empowerment, I know I can rely on Ms. Galenorn. I have been a fan of her books for years. It is nice to return back to her writing and see this new series. I have missed reading her survivor books.

I try not to speculate on author's personal life because it feels a bit intrusive. I know some authors will write in a bit of their life into their books because, you write what you know. All I have to say is that if Ms. Galenorn's series ... any of them have a bit of her life in it, I am both saddened and impressed.

In our latest series, January is a woman who's bright light and abilities have been snuffed out by an ex-husband who used her and then discarded her like yesterday's trash. This is a popular theme and one would think, with magic and witches as the team, this would all be about vengeance and "hear me roar" chest thumping. That would be a wrong assumption. Instead, January is all about reconnecting with her roots and moving on, away from the toxicity of her ex. I am impressed by this and more over, I like how January finds a new career and reinvents herself.

What starts out as a possible paranormal news sighting job quickly becomes a much more complex and dangerous one. The build up of the danger and meeting even more powerful beings adds a nice tension to the story. I'm hoping this is more than just two books because I like where this series is going. I especially like January who is a down to earth survivor, just trying to get her life back together after too many with a user.

Ms. Galenorn creates a familiar world using real life cities and popular mythos. She adds her special twist to it and makes it magical. For those who loved the movie Practice Magic, this is even better. Recommended for paranormal readers who love magic and reinventing your life themes.

DNF at 40%. I was looking forward to this book, the blurb really caught my attention. Sadly, I just couldn’t get engaged. The MC irritated me when I should have been empathetic to her situation - for instance, it got boring hearing yet again how she was duped out of her magazine. Killian was cute but his interactions with January were a bit naff and sooo predictable. I found the magical world and powers confusing and their presentation disjointed. It felt in need of a steely editor to bring in some discipline to build on what was a decent premise.

5.0 out of 5 stars A perfect introduction to a new series from Ms. Galenorn

January Jaxson was blindsided by her husband ditching her for some fluff trophy wife, steals the business she developed and ran with him and to top it off kicks her out of the house during the holidays. When her best friend suggests moving back to Moonshadow Bay, she takes it and finds herself adrift at age forty-one. But settling back in her hometown and getting back into her magic, January takes a job with Conjure Ink and finds more than even she bargained for when her very first case thrusts her into mystery that has deadly consequences for unsuspecting people. Along with the Conjure Ink crew, she has to investigate an old, abandoned asylum that has dead bodies turning up on the land around it with no logical explanations to their deaths. Now the race is on as she figures out this case, keep ahead of the danger that goes over this place like a cloud and try to navigate this new life she is making for herself. Who said the forties were so boring?

I love this new introduction to Yasmine Galenorn’s newest series, Moonshadow Bay, in STARLIGHT WEB. I love how the main character is in her forties and not needing rescuing all the time. As this was the first of this new genre called Paranormal Women’s Fiction for me to read, I got to admit, this just blew me away in a good way. I loved the story, the characters and how the author world building in Moonshadow Bay. The story flows swift and kept my attention right till the very end and then I had to pre-order book two, Midnight Web next. As this was one of my favorite authors, Ms. Galenorn doesn’t disappoint in STARLIGHT WEB. It’s a fast-paced ride from start to finish.

What I really loved about the characters were how relatable they were. January Jaxson was a more mature character that just kept me glued to the pages from page one. She was quirky, enjoyable, and highly entertaining. I couldn’t get enough of her. I really enjoyed her new co-workers at Conjure Ink as they were diverse and unique in and of themselves. I was hooked and the story felt fresh and unique as well. Add in a mysterious neighbor with his own secrets as a love interest for January, well I was intrigued for more. If you enjoy a heroine who you can root for, characters to fall in love with and a story to just captivate you then you will enjoy Moonshdow Bay and STARLIGHT WEB. I look forward to more from this author set in this unique world she has created amid the pages.

This is an objective review and not an endorsement

The book starts as January is leaving her home for the last time. Her ex has stolen the magazine she nearly singlehandedly built up, has taken the house, and dumped her for a 20 y/o. She returns to her home town for a new start. She closed off her witch side during her marriage because her husband hated it and now she wants to find the pieces she lost. I think we all do that after a divorce. I know I did.

January comes from a line of witches and her magic came down to her from her mother's side. She applies for a job at Conjure Inc as a paranormal investigator. She's also planning to hang out a shingle part time once she brings her magic skills back. She left home at 20 when she married and left town so her mother didn't get the chance to teach January as much as she needed to learn.

Her first case involves bodies being found on the grounds of an old asylum. A developer wants to build housing on the asylum, but there's a lot of dangerous stuff going on there that January has to confront.

I liked this book, hence the four stars, but I did think that Killian, January's love interest (there's no real hero in the sense that the hero is a main character), was a very weak character. He's pretty forgettable.

5.0 out of 5 stars What a way to start a brand new series!

Starlight web is the 1st book in a brand new series by author Yasmine Galenorn. In this book we are introduced to January a gifted lady who’s moving back home after a tragic event and much needed divorce. While she is catching up with some friends in town during a job search it leads her to a paranormal website but it’s much more then what she 1stvthought it was about. On her 1st assignment she finds out the truth behind a local legend and her and the team must put an end to end to it before more are killed or severely wounded. Some how in the middle of all this she meets and really connects with her new neighbor(but he’s got a secret of his own). This leaves u with a cliffhanger of sorts! Wanna know what happened to the local legend? What’s her neighbors secret? And just who is January? Wanna know? Pickup a copy ebook or paperback of this book ASAP! There’s a sequel coming out in February!

I found this story to be enjoyable. January moves back to her home town after she gets divorced to start over. She takes a job with Conjure Ink and her first job has her investigating mysterious deaths at an old asylum. January also finds a new romantic interest in her new neighbor.
This book contains all the supernaturals including witches, shifters, vampires and more. Probably the only thing that I didn't care for was how fast January and her neighbor became romantically involved considering she just had a nasty divorce. I will probably read the next book in the series since I really like her job and look forward to her next investigation and I liked all the characters in the story.

Yasmine Galenorn does it again! As much as I love her other series, this one blew my mind with the relatabilty in the main character and it's horroresque fantasy and romantic plot. The playlist at the end is awesome too. I am so hooked and can't wait for the next one.
January Is coming fresh from a divorce from a gaslighting , mental abuser to her hometown of Moonshadow Bay right into a new job, love interest and asylum mystery. And kittens to top it off. If you love urban fantasy mysteries, you can't pass this one up!

A crisis in a small town that was circumvented but not completely eliminated was the plot of this paranormal women’s fiction along with the new beginning of a mature woman who was crassly dumped by her ex. It was okay. I have the same problem I usually have with this author, that being I just don’t connect with her characters. I find them aloof and not very warm.

4.0 out of 5 stars New urban fantasy series from Ms. Galenorn

A new Urban Fantasy series from Ms. Galenorn. I liked that the heroine is older (41) and already has quite the past and decides to start over. I also liked that we aren't told everything about the world right away. At the beginning, the only supernaturals mentioned are witches (because the heroine is one), then we move on to shifters, then we move on to others. It's easier on the reader's mind rather than throwing our way several races at once, and a whole world history about how they get along (or not). Overall, a nice read. I'll most likely get the next book to see what happens next with the heroine.

5.0 out of 5 stars January Jaxson pulled up those big girl pants
Reviewed in the United States on March 20, 2021

January Jaxson went home to recover and found a new life with tons of plus! On the way out the garden hose helped turn her cheating, greedy ex's sports car into a small pool. (I would have added sugar to the tank after seeing him in bed with the trophy girlfriend.) Once in her family home she reconnects with old friends, good friends and finds new ones. The cute shifter, the high school bestie, the meanie, mysterious murders and a new focus. The only part I didn't care for was the pubes, TMI. Otherwise the cutie next door is a great morale booster. Her new job is scary but just the challenge she needs to pull up those big girl pants. And who can beat having people who love you as you are. Another hit, just wish the paperbacks fit in my budget better because I'd collect them all.
