First off I’m a millwright by trade for over 22yrs. I’ve used plenty of different tools over the years, saw these and some of the reviews and thought I would give them a try.
I’m not sure if I got the one that slipped by quality control but the jaws on the 16” are extremely loose, upwards of a 1/8” movement I’m not sure how one reviewer said the jaw openings were spot on???
The teeth on the jaws do not engage the worm nut enough and the jaws are extremely loose fitting.
I’m hoping to at least use it to line up bolt holes on the equipment I work on. The 12” is slightly better but I don’t have high hopes for either one.

These are nice wrenches. The finish is mat black except where machined. They seem to have a decently tight tolerance so they adjust and stay adjusted when being used. After 2 hard weeks of use they still look new.

Love the hammerwrench design. The metal is way too soft for the pipe thread teeth to last more than a few twists. The spud bars are very bendy. Didn’t expect much more for $31. I would be willing to pay double price for a set made out of better tool steel.

A good value but not durable

Getting two spud wrenches for around $25 is a great value. However, the larger wrench is weak. After a week of use the shaft is already getting bent and twisted, and this wrench is already getting rusty. I've had the Wright, Crescent, and Klien Spud wrench and they didn't rust up this quickly.

The only thing I can say is the larger wrench opens up wide so it will have no problems with 1 5/8" Nuts. Some of these other wrenches like the Wright don't open up past 1 1/2".

I would buy this again, but only because it's so cheap and it can work with larger nuts.

I was a licensed state inspection mechanic with my own shop, just so we are aware that I speak at least from a position of not being a novice mechanic. I have used adjustable wrenches galore. One of my favorites You Tube channels of someone with the initials AC raves about having these although from a different manufacturer; they appear often in his videos while fixing and repairing stuff. Having a long-tapered handle down to a near point opens up a lot of possibilities. For example, you could use it to align two holes, or use it as a pry that you could insert to just the right amount to get a good grip, not to mention the additional leverage you gain from having one that is up to 16 inches long. If you have a stubborn nasty bolt that opens up the possibility of using an extension pipe to garner even more leverage.
Now let's talk about the accuracy. Right away I thought the markings along the face with a sharp pointing arrow engraved in it as well would be close but not spot on. Well, I was wrong. It's perfect. I checked it for example at 1/4"< and at 1/2". On the other face it provides measuring lines in metric also. When you think about it, using an adjustable wrench, the clincher is that you go in blind, and have to keep twisting the setting until it grips the bolt rigidly. Well with this, you can be holding it from afar, dial in the size of the bolt, and then reach down into the cavity where the bolt lays, and have a perfect fit. That's nuts. No pun intended.
It is made from chrome vanadium steel and has a corrosion resistant black phosphate finish so it exactly reminds me of my impact socket sets that I take tires off of cars with, and use with all regular sized sockets of the same with an impact gun. In plain words it is heavy-duty.
This is the only adjustable wrench that I would ever consider using it as a double-duty tool, well, as a hammer. The back face of the 16" has a large anvil style ever so rounded that the mfr. says is for hammering. That whole section is built substantially, and definitely qualifies as a medium-duty hammer.
Now the other thing that is interesting is the jaw on the 16 actually unwinds, comes off, and you can reinsert it the opposite way which is uniquely tapered at an angle with serrated jaw teeth on it. It is not designed to be another flat adjustable wrench face, but rather using the fixed face flat, and the other one with an angled serrated face for quick action moving a bolt, or even a pipe in rapid fashion without having to re-find the intended size each time. You know, fiddling with it, until the bolt drops in between the two jaws. With the open, and slightly angled jaw it is more like the flexibility of a plumber’s pipe wrench or something, yet even more sophisticated because of the angled jaw being more receptive to entry. So just like one of my favs You Tube channels, I will be mentioning how amazing this tool, or should I say tools since there are two different sizes. Highly, highly recommended.

I enjoy doing DIY projects and most of my own mechanic vehicle work. These are heavy duty adjustable "spud" wrenches with a 16 inch long wrench that has a head that can be used to pound on something (P.2). The other is 12" long. Both of these have the very heavy tubular handle that comes to a narrow point which is why they are called a spud wrench and not simply an adjustable wrench. That pointy end can line up a bolt hole or pipe and is strong enough to pry some with.

These are black manganese oxide coated to help them resist rust and corrosion and are heavy duty. I liked that I can also use the incised marks on each head to check the size of a nut if I want to grab a big socket.

These are too heavy to carry around in a tool belt or box but fine in my garage tool supply.

I Recommend this AMAZON BASICS Set of 16" and 12" Heavy Adjustable "Spud" Wrenches. These are a good value!

These have a perfect taper for lining up heavy parts. Most of the work I do can be lined up with an allen wrench, but there's a few projects that require something more substantial, and this is the solution.

The heads have good measurements on the side in both standard and metric, so I can easily see where I'm at. It's great for when I want to get a legitimate combination wrench, and I want to grab the right one the first time. I work a lot with metric and standard, and having a scale to narrow it down makes life so much easier.

The big spud boy is reversible, so the jaw will drop out the bottom, and I can use it for spacing out material.

Overall great wrenches.

Highly recommended.

The conical end on this wrench is used to line up holes when fitting pieces of steel together to insert a nut. Stick the pointy end in the misaligned holes and use it as a lever to pull the holes into alignment.

Spud wrenches are used by iron workers, mechanics and others, but in a certain sense, they're good wrenches for many purposes. The wrench opposite the pointed end is simply a good quality adjustable wrench.

This is a fine, heavy tool with sharp edges, easy adjustment and sold at a good price.
