Misogyny, abuse, and trauma....rinse and repeat again and again
Reviewed in the United States on June 10, 2021
I wanted to love to this series. It seemed like it was going to be a good one. However, this book was ridiculous.
It isn't a tale of a girl overcoming her past mistakes and taking her control back.... its a chronicle of an immature masochists' repeated cycle of victimization, physical/mental/emotional/sexual abuse, and absolutely the most horrendous choices ever.
This author wants you to believe that an ENTIRE town and all its occupants are so utterly terrified of this gang, they willing stand by and let men kidnapped children, murder or beat people unconscious who disrespect the gang, treat a woman like a prisoner, have shoot out gang wars with people getting killed and the FBI never gets called.
The sheer absurdity of the level of "suspension of disbelief" you have to achieve to make this book anywhere near an enjoyable read means it should have been labeled paranormal RH romance. BTW....its not romance. It's "oooh, new shiney belongs to me now, abduct and abscond...murder-maim-scar anyone who breaths in her direction." Almost every single interaction the FMC has with any male (love interest*puke* or other), results in her being slammed against something forced onto something, jammed against something, grabbed-yanked-squueezed-gropped all over, thrown down/on/into/through stuff.....oh,in almost every scenario, no one cares one bit about her consent or refusal. Full steam ahead into rapey rapey land. Yep, these dude totally love her.
