Eons ago I did some amateur live recording [2 track]. An acquaintance ( not a professional engineer ) routinely recorded a professional symphony, often for PBS broadcast. We would have loved this book 45 years ago, but then so would have the writers ! They spent 30 years+ obtaining the expertise to develop this book. It appears that no stone was left unturned. I would like to try some of the piano techniques described should I have the opportunity. The breath and depth of the techniques (and logistics) described in the book seem limitless. For someone with "big ears" and an interest in classical music reproduction, this is a very good reference. The detailed logistics covered for an orchestra might put you off, unless you have a full staff of skilled people at your disposal. For a music teacher of an advanced high school band (or greater), this would be informative if you want to consider some tried and true microphone techniques. This might be a great text for an audio technology educational series. Lets get Covid under control so the world can get out there and do some of these things !
This book has opened my eyes to new techniques for recording that I have been able to pass on to my alma mater to improve their live recordings and live streaming sound quite noticably. This is a great read. It does get thick occasionally but it's easy to work through.
This book is possibly the most comprehensive guide to classical recording techniques available. It covers all aspects of classical recording in detail. A very practical book written by people at the top of the game in this field. Recommended.
I was waiting for this book for a long time and I'm so glad it's finally out. So much knowledge in less that 400 pages. The book that every recording engineer should have. All that you need to know about classical recording.
Practical information for anyone recording classical music at any level. Clearly written and very enjoyable. A guide by experts destined for the reference shelf of anyone involved in this area of music.
