What a phenomenal read, I could not put it down. I love how Strobel incorporated science, scripture, hard evidence and a variety of different perspectives to support the evidence of Heaven. Perfect book for anyone of faith or skeptics. Such food for thought for the analytical mind.

I'm trying to be kind in this ..... I've bought over 80 copies of Lee's first book and handled them out to many family and friends, ie "The Case for Christ", because it was a good read and generally relevant to the title, but Lee misses with this book. While there are only a few chapters in this book, after chapter 3 its begins this drift off topic. I'm surprised his publisher didn't bring that up in the proofing. Lee discusses a lot of other stuff that is interesting, yet its stuff that does not truly relate to the title, perhaps qualifying as filler material.

This was an amazing read. I really loved diving into the tough questions of Heaven and conversations of hell. I have loved every one of Lee’s books, and even loved the movie “The Case for Christ”. Wonderful read, a must purchase!

I’m a believer with many questions. Strobel’s journalistic style of writing has a way of reaching me like only my mother tongue can. Valuable read. You’ll be armed with reasoning tools to strengthen your faith, and to weed out false doctrines prevalent in our society.

5.0 out of 5 stars Augmenting Sanctified Imagination of Heaven with Reason and Evidence
Reviewed in the United States on November 20, 2021

Not enough is written about heaven, so “The Case for Heaven” is a welcome addition. I am also surprised how little the topic of heaven is taught in church. I do not recall a Sunday sermon devoted to heaven in my 48 years as a church goer.

It is not easy to always know what to make of heaven. Does one interpret literally or figuratively what the bible has to say? Sanctified imagination is necessary to weave all that the bible teaches with what we understand and experience of our loving Heavenly Father. Randy Alcorn’s “Heaven” does this particularly well, stirring within me a childlike sense of wonderment, joy and anticipation even as I grow into my sunset years.

The Case for Heaven adds an important dimension to books like Randy Alcorn’s Heaven. It augments sanctified imaginations of heaven with reason and evidence. Substance is being added to things not seen. It is not just us christians who believe that God has set eternity in our hearts. As Lee points out, “the quest for salvation (without God) is at the heart of every great philosophical system”. Humans are driven by a desire for immortality(or symbolic immortality eg. personal legacy), but doing so without God sadly drives us to depression, evidenced by how serious this problem is within the greater atheists community.

A deeper appreciation of heaven is needed if we are to live well on earth. As Lee says, “anticipating a paradise of eternal pleasures (should cause us to) stop our mindless pursuit of substitute indulgences that only bring fleeting enjoyment and leave lasting regret”. Our momentary pain and annoyances matter less when we have heaven on our minds.

Heaven is not about “hell avoidance”. It is also not that “better place” we comfort ourselves we will go to, even as we are saddened by what we leave behind. “God takes nothing away from us in our eternal state except to replace it or enhance it with something better.” Heaven is about relationships. It is about genuinely wanting to spend eternity with God, a Father with whom we have had this wonderful long distance relationship for which we shall now forever enjoy His manifest presence. Forever is not something to fear. Forever is about being caught up in the unfathomable ecstasy of all things wonderful and beautiful without end, where time as a concept cease to be of consequence.

The Case for Heaven is an encouragement for us to not shortchange ourselves by settling for substitutes and reflections. Heaven is the real deal that we eagerly await.

5.0 out of 5 stars A Lovely Book
Reviewed in the United States on March 4, 2022

This is a lovely book. The author leads a center for evangelism and applied apologetics but he here identifies as a journalist. Seeking to provide ‘the case for Heaven’ he interviews a number of contemporary thinkers, professors, evangelists, and writers. He poses questions to them and seeks their responses. The rhetorical model is a journalist’s journey: “I had learned a great deal but now I had to go to Denver to meet with X to discuss Y.”

The questions posed range from the traditional to the more exotic. For example: will we see our pets in Heaven? Do animals have souls? Do they need souls to be there? Among the more exotic: what is the current state of theological speculation with regard to the possibility that there is no hell in the sense of a place of everlasting torment, that those who are not going to heaven simply cease to exist?

Note that the latter opinion—that condemned souls simply disappear—has been attributed to Pope Francis. We hear relatively little about Catholic opinion here. This is a protestant book and, in some ways, an evangelical book. There is a great deal of emphasis on salvation through faith (rather than good works, which the Catholics stress) and a lot of parsing of passages from the Bible. The parsing includes the meaning of specific words in biblical languages. It is not chop-logic.

The book is hortatory but also devotional and, always, encouraging. It is generally well-written. There is some reliance on secular philosophers but principally the Greek philosophers of antiquity. There is also attention given to the church fathers (‘tradition’ is generally more important to Catholics than to Protestants). There is very little attention given to modern philosophy (i.e. post-renaissance philosophy) and little attention given to literature (with the exception of Dante, of course). There is some mention of the role of modern science (big bang theory; the fact that the universe is now believed to have a datable origin) in reinforcing belief in a divine creator.

This is a book written for a popular audience; it is not the kind of theological treatise associated with writers like Alvin Plantinga, for example. It is nevertheless rewarding and a book that has attracted a very wide audience. One might think of it as C. S. Lewis lite, except for the fact that it often relies on Lewis to make its points.

Highly recommended.

Strobel's book on Heaven for me was a page turner... When finished my copy is hardly one suitable for resale or passing on... It now it underlined and heavily noted...(It shall take a place on my overloaded bookshelves). Strobel tackles many issues running the gambit from Heaven to Hell... Strobel being a one time atheist now Christian apologist does not skirt any or maybe for some many issues in this book dealing with the afterlife from that point of view...

There are about 30 pages of notes - six pages of listings of more materials - divided neatly to tie into the various chapters. Six pages of 'favorite' Bible verses dealing with heaven... plus index. One thing I also found at the end was a section titled Discussion Guide - Questions for Group Interaction or Personal Reflection... and Index....

5.0 out of 5 stars Interesting examination of philosophies we all wonder about

I’m a facts and figures kind of person who leans toward logical thinking so I like reading Lee Strobel’s books because he asks questions and then examines possible answers from various sources. In The Case for Heaven several topics are looked at from heaven and hell to reincarnation and purgatory. This is not an in depth look at near death experiences (NDE) as some might suppose from the title.

Strobel’s writing doesn’t overwhelm you with exhaustive information but he does cite enough information and sources to give credibility to his subject matter. You are led to his conclusions but not in a dogmatic way and at some points I was intrigued enough to research other sources for verification or additional information.

My favorite book of his is The Case for Faith but The Case for Heaven is certainly one I will read again to ponder what I didn’t fully absorb the first time through.
