💥Proceed with caution as this is an extreme horror novel and is NOT for the faint of heart💥

This was my first read by this author and as promised, this book truly delivers. I've been searching for a book more vile than Morrison's Dead Inside and I assure you this topped it ten fold.

It starts off kind of slow, describing the life Vera leads and why she is the way she is. However, once she knocks on The Slob's door there is absolutely no going back and Vera will never be the same.

I actually had to sit this down a time or two and regroup to push on with the story. There are some VERY intense scenes in this book. I do wish a few of the chapters at the end had been omitted because I felt the story would have been better without them but this read is every bit of a 5 🌟 based on its uniqueness and shock factor. This is a book I won't ever forget.

Read it if you dare.

Focuses on shock factor over anything else. Spelling errors throughout, sort of felt like reading the first draft of a high schooler's work. I was surprised to find this project even had an editor. For one example, the author will write something like "Little did I know...the worst was yet to come." at the end of nearly every chapter. This author seems to mistake pretentious, flowery language for good descriptive writing. The characterization of the protagonist has undertones of misogyny, plus the author forcing some of his blatant homophobia into the end. Honestly doesn't deserve to get recommended with other Splatterpunk novels. There is no context or commentary attached to any of the gore or violence. Eye roll-worthy content from an edgelord author. Don't waste your time if you're a serious horror or splatterpunk fan.

Honestly, not even worth reviewing. Words are misspelled, dialogue is illogical and unnecessary, the tense/perspective jolts around. Sure, it’s shocking and gory, but the actual meat of the text is unbearable. 0 stars. #tiktokdidmedirty

4.0 out of 5 stars T.Y.G... You are what you eat...

No spoilers. 4 stars. If you are a fan of extreme horror, you'll most likely settle right into this story...

Vera Harlow is a clean freak since childhood. She's married to disabled war veteran Daniel and they're expecting their first child when...

... a door-to-door Bissell salesman changes Vera's life with his demonstration of his hoseless carpet cleaner...

Being a mega clean addict, Vera decides she can sell this marvelous product herself and make enough money for the couple to buy a home...

... but one of Vera's house calls... her last call of the day at an old farmhouse in the country... on a road that dead ends...

... is her last...

... Vera is on a collision course with the Slob... and it's not going to be pretty!...

... The Slob's house is filthy and littered with miscellaneous junk, debris and empty tin cans mysteriously labeled T.Y.G....

... and Vera learns a little too late... You are what you eat...

This is one of the grossest stories I've ever read. There is extreme violence for sure and of the most disgusting variety. I rated it 4 stars because once you get past the vile factor there is actually a fairly good story there but thank God it isn't a long story!

Graphic sex and violence warnings apply here as well as warnings about violence toward some groups of humanity.

The Slob by Aron Beauregard is a story not for the weak stomached, easily triggered, or those who do not like Splatterpunk/Extreme Horror. I knew I was getting myself into something great even from the beginning passages, but I had no idea how well Aron would be in his descriptions! I honestly can say there were segments that actually made my stomach churn!

The Slob is the story of Vera a humble housewife. When circumstances arise that provide her with a means to make a little extra money she takes the chance at being a door-to-door salesperson. What she sells, Bissell carpet cleaners, caters to her cleaning compulsion, and her paraplegic husband Daniel finally relents and agrees with Vera to simply try the sales for one week. Little does either of them know how much can occur in just a week or two. What lengths will Vera go in order to survive a heinous ordeal that she gets herself into? Will she survive? Will she ever see Daniel again? Or will she simply be another missing person?

First off, Aron Beauregard can write! I was very impressed with his vocabulary, knowledge, and eloquence in his writing. I really loved the flow of his book, his style was original, and felt organic. His use of descriptive adjectives is through the roof! I really did feel nauseated at times, and that doesn’t occur often with me! I am a huge Splatterpunk fan, and I must say Aron has his own original flair.

The thing I really loved the most about The Slob is the fact that Aron delivers a nauseating, disturbing, and absolutely horrific story without even having to utilize much vulgar language at all! Don’t get me wrong, I absolutely LOVE profanity in literature, but I felt it highlighted his talent. That a Splatterpunk book can be disgusting, disturbing, and make your skin crawl without having an F-bomb dropped every other sentence. I feel that this also shows that Beauregard exhibits intelligence. Not to mention he is most definitely not redundant in his vocabulary! He absolutely switches up the descriptive words he uses, and is not repetitive whatsoever!

Overall, I give The Slob by Aron Beauregard four and a half stars out of five! This novella was utterly amazing! I only deduce half a star because I really didn’t want the story to end. I hungered for more of the insane show I was witnessing! I can say with honesty that Aron has earned a spot as one of my favorite authors by this novella alone! I am exceedingly pleased to know there are more of his works that I can devour in the near future!

Aron Beauregard's THE SLOB is an extreme horror master work. Not since The Girl Next Door have I read something so emotionally upsetting. This sucker manages to hit you right in the feels as it's gutting your stomach from revulsion. This is the epitome of deep emotional story within a gore fest of a book.

Though some may say the set up is a slow burn, it moves along quickly enough. It didn't feel slow to me as even the initial back stories were interesting and ultimately fed the conclusion of the story perfectly. A lot of extreme horror is gory for the fun of it. Not THE SLOB. THE SLOB is gory because it needs to be. The torture drives the emotional pain and anguish you feel reading this book.

THE SLOB harkens a bit to Ed Lee's The Bighead. He is a monster, through and through, and maybe best (or worst) of all, THE SLOB is more human than The Bighead. That makes him worse, the fact that he's lost his humanity.

My only gripe would be that some of the violence and trauma the characters in this story experience are a bit too over the top with respect to plausibility. Some of the beatings that took place should have rendered a normal person dead or incapacitated at best. In THE SLOB some of the beatings seem to be written over the top for the emotional and extreme shock and the characters recover in an almost video game type fashion. But here too, the power and feels this story brings out overcomes the occasional eye roll I had while reading.

As of this review, THE SLOB is nominated for a SPLATTERPUNK Award. It is a well deserved nod. Bottom line, if you enjoy reading extreme horror you need to read THE SLOB. It will go down as a classic of the genre.

The whole time while reading this book, I was imagining to myself...what if someone out there is going through as much suffering and horror as Vera does in this book right now...that in itself should speak volumes on how well written Aron's character are in this book. It's beyond graphic, but knowing the evils that exist in this world...its still very plausible. This book had me reading from start to finish to see poor Vera's fate in such a twisted realm of hell. I hate spoilers so i'll leave it at that, plus the synopsis gives a pretty good sneak peak at what to expect. Just know its splatter punk turned up to 11 and another bloody awesome piece of work by Aron.

If you’re looking for a good book, this ain’t it. If you’re looking for a laugh, go for it, it doesn’t take long to read. Just be aware that you’re reading a book that spells eke as eek. It’s gross, so the splatter is there I suppose but it’s not scary, not suspenseful.

And as I was reading I couldn’t help but wonder how fragile these people are. His tiny little … is split open immediately from a shattered arm bone hidden in her… how censored are amazon reviews, anyway? But it’s cut into ribbons on first entry. Is he made out of avocado? Jello? I just don’t understand how that happens.

And the ending is absolutely homophobic. I started reading because I heard it was disturbing. I guess I was disturbed by how contrived and homophobic it was so. Kudos? I kept reading to see exactly how bad it was going to get. It definitely delivered in that regard.

The only good thing about the book is that it’s a really quick read. It feels like it was written an edgy high school boy. Don’t bother.
