How customer reviews and ratings work

Customer Reviews, including Product Star Ratings help customers to learn more about the product and decide whether it is the right product for them.

To calculate the overall star rating and percentage breakdown by star, we don’t use a simple average. Instead, our system considers things like how recent a review is and if the reviewer bought the item on Amazon. It also analyzed reviews to verify trustworthiness.

After researching every option, manufactures as well as reading reviews and watching videos we purchased the Jackery 1000 power station and two Jackery 100 watt solar panels. I wanted to have a solar unit on our camping trips as well as for possible emergencies at home as a quiet and reliable back up to our gas generator. The Jackery arrived with a 39% charge out of the box. I read the directions and set up the panels on my balcony facing the sun the next morning. It is a very easy set-up. I turned the panels as the sun moved across the sky to optimize the rays hitting the surface of the panels as directly as possible about every 15-20 minutes. We're in Southern California and it was a clear December day. With both panels connected I was pulling in about 135 watts to the Jackery. By early evening, an hour before sunset the J1000 was fully charged. My only rub is for $1600 + dollars you would think Jackery would throw in a carrying case for the station... You have to order it separate. A cooler bag will work fine for much less. Also, the panels do not have a carrying case. They have no protection when on the move. I purchased a artists canvas portfolio bag. Keep the cardboard box the panels came in put it in the portfolio, and voila! A protective carrying case for the panels. I'm going to get an additional Jackery 1000 to use while one is charging as a backup while running our 12V fridge. The Jackery seems to be the best option until new technology arrives.

Update, 6 months later: Upon using The J1000 to run our 53qt. 12V camping refrigerator/freezer the results are in.
We started with a full 100% charge on the J1000. The refrigerator compressor fired right up and began cooling. After 24 hours the reading on the J1000 was 80% charge. Periodically I opened the fridge to check and simulate actual use. After 48 hours it was at 40% with, of course, 20% power remaining. This means mathematically we can run the fridge approximately 60 hours on the J1000 without recharging on one power station. Excellent. I have purchased another J1000 as a back up while the other is charging. That should easily give us 4-5 days without even recharging. If you are considering a solar power unit, I don't believe you'll go wrong with the Jackery line. I'm very picky and critical of commercial products and have surprisingly pleased, so far, with Jackery. BTW: Most important, their customer service is second to none, having contacted them with questions and experiencing quick responses. I'm an avid camper, prepper, actual paying customer, and user. No axes to grind, no bs.

3.0 out of 5 starsMake sure you are buying what you need!

We bought the Jackery 1000 bundle with 2 solar panels directly from Jackery (sorry Amazon), based on great customer reviews, and thought we would be happy. The unit seems like it would work well, with one very important exception, at least for us. We live in northern New York where ice storms can take down power for days or even weeks at a time. As my wife has medicines that HAVE TO BE KEPT COOL, we bought this as a back-up in case we lose power, hoping it would run a small refrigerator to keep her medicines cold. I'm sure the unit would power the refrigerator short term, but herein lies the problem (for us). The solar panels CANNOT get wet with rain, ice, sleet or snow, so they cannot be used outside in inclement weather. If you place the panels behind a large picture window, it greatly reduces the charging power of the panels, and would quite likely be unable to keep the battery charged. The part that irritates us the most is that nowhere on Amazon's nor Jackery's website does it display this information. We did not learn of this unit's limitations until the package arrived and we poured over the enclosed literature. Lowe's has a similar powered unit for half the price ($1,999.99) that has weather-proof, roof mountable solar panels. Had we known then what we know now, we never would have bought the Jackery 1000 bundle.

I bought a bundle of the solar generator and the panel a year ago because of the reviews I saw without digging deeper into it. I have the 1000wh jackery battery and the 2 pcs 100w panel that goes with the bundle. After a year of barely using it, the solar panel just stopped working. Both panels just stopped at the same time.It won’t charge the battery. Even the adapter is broken too. So, out of desperation we opened the adapter and walaaaa all diodes are not working. Opened the panel connected to the wire and tested it, cells are not working. It’s my fault I did not register the panel for warranty coz this thing is quite pretty expensive compared to other brands in the market. But even if I did register it, the hassle of calling the manufacturer, packing and shipping back and forth is not worth it. So what I’m trying to say is…..this thing is a waste of money. It’s a piece of junk find something that’s sturdy enough. Lesson learned, not all branded stuff are worth the price.

Generator failed to charge after about 2 months reached out for help and jackery was very apologetic. Helped in getting me back up and running and now I've had no more issues. Camping is wonderful with this piece of kit and I can recommend doing business with jackery.

The battery is fine but the solar panels lasted less than 6 months and customer service doesn’t answer the phone. When the product is more expensive than competitors, it lasts less than 6 months, and you can’t seem to get in touch with someone at customer service...it makes Jackery look like a marketing company without a useable product. The panels are definitely portable and lightweight but they are just useless solar panel shaped objects.

I took it camping a couple times and this generator can’t keep up with running a 110v microwave. I even shut off all the lights and fridge. Still didn’t work. Same with running the fridge, we shut everything down and the generator kept shutting down . A/c won’t even try to start. This generator is only meant for a radio maybe 1 or 2 night lights. Not happy about this buy . And I can’t even return it back for refund. I tried running a saw and won’t work shuts down. Don’t buy unless your only using it to charge aa batteries.

1.0 out of 5 stars New buyer report - update - two solar panel sets only generated 125 watts, not expected 100 watts.
Reviewed in the United States on December 5, 2021
Verified Purchase
Update Feb. 10, 2022 - I set this double panel pair outside and connected them with the provided consolitation (or "Y") cable to the battery. Either panel set generated about 105 watts in bright sun if connected to the battery, but if I connected both panel sets to feed them to the battery box using the "Y" cable, I only got a total of about 125 watts, not the expected 200 watts. So I have downgraded my rating to one star until I get this fixed, explained or resolved.

Original Review: I received this Jackery battery and dual solar panels this week of Dec. 1, 2021. My ratings right now are neutral until I get some experience with this device.
I setup the twin, fold out solar panels facing the Florida sun and connected them to the battery unit.
In fairly bright sunlight, they were charging at about 80-90 watts.
I somehow thought I was getting TWO panels with 100 watts each, but it is two panels for a total of 100 watts. (Note: I received the SECOND panel set a few days later, no email updates).
I bought this vs building my own charger because my research indicated it would cost about the same to buy all the components which are in the battery box plus panels, especially since I got an Amazon Prime Thanksgiving special discount of $225. Thus the total, including $89 in tax and no shipping was $1363. I used the Amazon Synchrony credit card which charges zero interest if I pay it over under 12 months.
The unit came out of the box with 45% charged.
I ran the panels until the afternoon, about 5 hours, and the charge % was up to 75%
I am charging it more today.
The unit comes with several connectors which will be useful.
I mostly wanted this device to power some electrical appliances and computer if power goes off. I live in central Florida and the power was off for two weeks after Hurricane Irma and I had to go to the library to charge my phone and laptop. Once I see what this unit really does, I may upgrade the panels etc. to get more self reliant and be able to run the fridge and a room A/C.
Last night I thought about some added uses:
- I have mostly electric tools, not air or gasoline powered. Thus I can plug them in to run the tools when I am not near a cord connection, like my electric chainsaw, grass trimmer, etc.
Ti[s:
- Spend time understanding all the attachments and how to use all the ports. For instance, try the device to START a car or charge the car battery.
- TEST it with devices you will want to charge if power is out.
- TEST the speed which the 110v charger charges the battery in case you have to do so and not use the solar panels.
- BUY new devices that will run longer connected to this - i.e. they do not use as much power.
- For PC users, setup your more power efficient laptop as an alternative to only using a more power hungry desktop. For example, I do editing, so I plan to get a more powerful 4-8 core laptop so I can do it on the laptop which is not feasible on my old HP 2-core laptop with max of 8GB of Ram.
- Imagine if you get hit with a brownout or blackout, which is happening due to Biden and progressive policies, and what you will need power for, and devise the method to use the Jackery to meet your goals.
- Consider getting a Kill-a-watt meter to measure device power usage so you know what they require.
- TEST each of your major appliances, like Fridge, AC etc to see how fast they drain power. This unit is only 1000 watts, when articles say you need 3000 to power a home, and I don't know how many panels you need.
- After you get a pre-built device like this, do research on how to build your own to increase capacity.
- Research on the internet how to increase the solar panels and charge rate.

I will return in a few weeks to update this. I am testing it NOW, after purchase, in case there is a need to send it back (I don't expect to unless a quality problem crops up).

1.0 out of 5 stars Panels That Are Not Waterproof – Almost Useless
Reviewed in the United States on August 28, 2021
If solar panels cannot be left out in the wet weather, then I consider them next to useless and will never buy them. First off, I don’t want the hassle of having to watch the weather and bring in panels when necessary. Second, in an emergency the panels would be deployed for a huge amount of time. Even if I am watching the weather, chances are pretty good that some rain is going to sneak up on me, ruining the panels. Then how useful will my solar powered generator be?

Also I want to permanently mount panels on my rooftop of my home and/or RV (not easily accessible, to deter theft in an emergency).

Look for IP67 or better panels, INCLUDING all hardware / electronics attached to the panel. I’m really disappointed that a nice generator package like the Jackery does not have waterproof panels.

I would love to give zero stars if I could. I spent $1500.00 only to get the charger unit, minus the 2 solar panels that should have been included. I hope the folks at Jackery will make it right. What is the point without the solar panels?
