How customer reviews and ratings work

Customer Reviews, including Product Star Ratings help customers to learn more about the product and decide whether it is the right product for them.

To calculate the overall star rating and percentage breakdown by star, we don’t use a simple average. Instead, our system considers things like how recent a review is and if the reviewer bought the item on Amazon. It also analyzed reviews to verify trustworthiness.

Woo hoo! This is a fast paced in your face magical mystery romp. I love Ava and her menagerie of friends. I hope she never finds a spell to send Luci home.

1.0 out of 5 starsYou have got to be kidding!!
Reviewed in the United States on May 3, 2021
I have enjoyed this genre tremendously, before this book. I struggled, trudged, slogged through the mindlessness of what? Junk. I do not understand some of the reviews. There has been no character development, except perhaps Miriam makes Eyore the donkey, look like Pollyanna. There are sections that make no sense; you don't even get to know Miriam before you find out what type of sex and preference her Ex enjoys (how does that even fit!??). I am a voracious reader and couldn't make it past page 71. I even gave the book to a friend because I couldn't return it and she didn't make it past page 60 and asked me to take it back. I have read some truly good and extremely engaging authors in this genre, Darynda Jones, and Robyn Peterman to name two. Those authors drew you in immediately, allowed you to truly engage with the characters and created wonderful stories and worlds to become a part of for a brief time. I feel terribly cheated by Deborah Wilde and do not understand who would even publish this book. I cannot in any way recommend wasting your time on this book. I am sorry because I have never felt the need to warn people not to waste their money. If you feel you must read this, perhaps your local library might have a copy or you might have a friend, like me, who was taken in and purchased it and will happily give it to you to read.
Such a disappointment. I have more life, hope and dreams left in me at 74 than Miriam does at 41, poor Miriam, the Librarian...so sad.

2.0 out of 5 stars Did I miss book 1.5?
Reviewed in the United States on May 25, 2021

I’m normally pretty forgiving, enjoying a good story in spite of a few grammatical or storyline problems but I’m 30% in and I feel like I have missed a book in this series somewhere between book 1 and book 2. There are several new characters that were introduced as though I should already know them. The house changed names and gender, and I feel like the relationship between Ava and Drew jumped ahead way too prematurely. Seriously - it’s there a book 1.5 that I missed?

3.0 out of 5 stars A little respect for your readers please.

First, I want to be clear that I really enjoy this series. The characters are fun, the stories are well put together and, in general, the series is well done. I have, in fact, read all the books in the series so far. In the two novellas (about Christmas and Valentines Day) I had noticed the proof reading had gotten a little sloppy but not enough to irritate too much. In this book, on the other, the mistakes are so bad as to pull me out of the story. In fact, it's so blatant as to refer to Carmen Moonflower as Scarlett twice and to call Larry by the wrong name on one occasion. At first I started tracking so that I could just send the authors a note of pages with mistakes on them but when there were so many I decided that it wasn't my job to proofread a book for the authors. It was so bad that I'm insulted that the authors don't respect the readers enough to think we would notice or were in such a hurry to get this on the market that they didn't bother with proofing. I am making a distinction here between editing and proofing as the errors aren't in the organization or story line but in the technical aspects. I hate to give any author a less than sterling review but in this case it seems important.

5.0 out of 5 stars Enjoying immensely

So this is the 4th book that I have read in this series, and the 1st review that I have left. I am going to go back and review the other books as well. When I begin a book series that I'd like I'd like to take a little time to get into it before I decide if it's really wonderful. And I'll tell you what, I am absolutely in love with this series. The characters are wonderful and engaging. There is love and friendship and a woman who is growing to completely accept herself. There are old rivalries that have become best friendships and misunderstandings that have Become inclusivity. This is a wonderful series to read you will not regret it! I know I don't.

Ava and her friends are looking for a person with magic who is killing people and leaving a silver coin on them. So many interesting things happen and I had no idea the killer would be who it turned out to be. Great story.

3.0 out of 5 stars This series is a snack, not a meal.

And as a snack, might make more like four stars, really. I think maybe some of the reviewers were looking for a meal. None of these novels or novellas feels fully developed or even completely thought out. They feel more like stories that two friends knocked out between them over a bottle (or two) of wine. It's light and amusing and fun. It's not going to melt your panties or leave you thinking about it after you put it down. But I don't think it's fair to castigate this series because it isn't keeping up with more thorough efforts by other authors. It isn't even trying to do that. If you need a light, upbeat break from angst and darkness, either literary or literal, this series works well.

3.0 out of 5 stars Enjoying the series BUT
Reviewed in the United States on December 7, 2021

I really am thoroughly enjoying the series but I had to take a star off because the constant referral to the male protagonist being an Alpha male totally destroyed my enjoyment.

There are good guys and idiots who think in alpha beta theories. The men who think like that are skeezes the women who think that way are harmful to other women and our freedoms. The entire Alpha premise even for wolves has been debunked over and over anyway why do you authors keep pushing it? It's just abusive and gross.

Took another star off because she can't seem to close out one strand of anything in her books, but keeps adding stuff and my poor midlife brain can't keep track.

3.0 out of 5 stars a little jumbled up

So, the first book was really good. This second book has a great story but the telling of it was uneven. The things that bothered me most was that a lot happened between book 1 and 2 that were unseen. Collecting a skeleton who was a murdered witch and having it move in with you, Accidently freeing Satan from hell at a Christmas party and missing her first date with the sheriff. So , if things are happening either really enclude it or stop illuding to it. Or maybe stretch it to another book. Thank you it was a fun read.
