How customer reviews and ratings work

Customer Reviews, including Product Star Ratings help customers to learn more about the product and decide whether it is the right product for them.

To calculate the overall star rating and percentage breakdown by star, we don’t use a simple average. Instead, our system considers things like how recent a review is and if the reviewer bought the item on Amazon. It also analyzed reviews to verify trustworthiness.

4.0 out of 5 starsDomestic Thriller with A Dark Twist
Reviewed in the United States 🇺🇸 on November 17, 2022
Melanie is an aspiring writer with a lot on her plate. She’s a wife, a mother to a teen daughter and a young son on the autism spectrum, and active in her community. Additionally, she cares for her mother-in-law, who has dementia, and is living with the family. She’s tired, stressed and drowning in obligations. Collin is Melanie’s devoted husband. He sees the relentless demands of her busy life and wants to ease the weight of caregiving. He suggests she join a neighborhood book club and a local writer’s group, hoping some free time will provide her with some respite. The family dynamic between Melanie, Collin, Rachel and Ben is expertly depicted. The reader feels their healthy bonds and genuine closeness. The dialogue in these scenes is warm, often-funny and pitch perfect.
So, reluctantly, Melanie attends the writer’s workshop one night, and is immediately captivated by a published novelist, Luke, who is a guest speaker at the event. Melanie is taken in by his talent, and shares her dreams of writing before marriage, kids and life intervened. Unsurprisingly, Melanie and Luke begin a passionate affair, destined not to end well. Mel loses herself in the clandestine relationship, wrestling with her guilt and her ever-increasing need for this new man. The drama up to this point is nearly non-stop, as Melanie juggles her conflicting needs and desires. Then, when Luke is found dead under mysterious circumstances, the stakes become even higher. Melanie fears losing her marriage, being found out, and being implicated in this complicated crime. To make matters worse, she’s being blackmailed by someone unknown, and all the pressure and worry cause her to begin to unravel. Who killed Luke? Who would want to harm her? Can she keep her secrets and her family safe amid this web of danger and deceit? She trusts no one, and when shocking truths are eventually revealed, Melanie’s life will never be the same.
Nova-Glass knows how to spin a suspenseful story, even though it becomes less plausible as the book progresses. Melanie morphs from a doting soccer mom to someone far darker when she embarks on her affair. Her lies are numerous and endless. She conspires with a cast of shady characters, under the guise of protecting her family, but the deception is so effortless, that the reader is left to ponder this duality and to wonder who Melanie truly is.
This is a good read with steady momentum and several twists and turns. It keeps the reader guessing and turning pages deep into the night.

3.0 out of 5 starsEasy read, not my favorite
Reviewed in the United States 🇺🇸 on October 14, 2022
I love Glass’ novels, I recently read two of her other novels and decided to give this one a try. I thought the story started off as pretty interesting, but there were parts that were unnecessary, such as the mother in law running off and coming back dirty. I was hoping some how the mother in law Claire was on to something. Overall, the story ends pretty abruptly, and the many characters that have motive and could be guilty aren’t developed enough. There is little resolve with Valerie. I thought the story was “so-so”, but I was still interested enough to finish it.

1.0 out of 5 stars Gaffes in first chapter
Reviewed in the United States 🇺🇸 on February 16, 2022
Two gaffes in the first chapter made me toss this one aside. The daughter is mentioned to have a friend over and they are eating strawberries in the kitchen. Next thing we read about the daughter is she is bringing her cell phone outside to her mom (all within the span of 3 or 4 minutes from the kitchen scene). No mention of the friend...A simple "where did Susie go" or "did Susie go home?" would have sufficed. But we got nothing....we have no idea where the friend went. Second gaffe: we are told that school starts for the two kids in seventeen days. But after dinner the daughter rushes upstairs to do her homework because she is in "homework mode".

Ridiculous mistakes that costs this author a future reader.

1.0 out of 5 stars Audible review, narrator
Reviewed in the United States 🇺🇸 on June 6, 2022
This book is narrated by Xe Sands and, I couldn’t get past a few chapters. Her breathy way of speaking makes me crazy! I really enjoyed other books by this author. I would suggest reading this book, not listening to it.
Happy reading!

This book is dreadful.
1, Mal is bat —— crazy

3. One child has a debility that is not defined ( most likely autism spectrum)
4. Save your money seems I am making dreadful choices until main authors release

I couldn't keep listing so I have no idea how good the story is. Maybe I'll read it instead of listening.

1.0 out of 5 stars Too many fatphobic jokes
Reviewed in the United States 🇺🇸 on January 17, 2022
I really couldn't get past the fatphobic jokes and constantly making fun of people's body size. It didn't add to the storyline at all, and it was really disappointing.
