Sunshine just became my new most favorite character in the entire Four Horsemen universe. This was an amazingly well done story. Jason Cordova did a wonderful job with his characters as he always does, but this time making the synergy work between a young African human teen, a second human of dubious background, a seven foot tall wolf of everyone's nightmares, and a baby goat, is an accomplishment. Non-stop action in this one, a bit of humor and most importantly Cordova drives the story forward in the sixth book of the Guild Wars. The ending was unexpected and puts Sunshine's motley crew on a clear trajectory for the next chapter in their adventures. Highly recommend.
And she's learning the Galactic Union is not Monrovia! With the loss of everyone she knew in the Kakata Korps and its only surviving officer, she is still trying to figure out what to do with her life. She's still trying to fulfill Mulbah Luo's final order, but the secret information she's supposed to give to the Peacemakers is not where she thought it would be. As she tries to find the expert she needs to recover it, she unknowingly begins to rebuild the Korps, creating a new enemy! Along the way, she and her new allies discover a terrible secret and have to find a way to save an exploited species. The final scene is some of Jason's best writing!
What would you do if you had lost practically everything ? Give up and give into despair or find something to motivate you to move forward and try to forge ahead to have purpose again ? Sometimes, you just need one small thing or little something to make you take that next step. Sunshine had been left with a mission, to deliver a message that was secretly stored in her Casper. Only she didn't know how to retrieve it. With limited funds and no idea of how to retrieve the message, she's running out of options fast. She might be young and alone, but she's resourceful. All she needs is a little luck and some help.
This is an excellent addition to the Guild Wars arc of the wider Four Horsemen universe. This book reveals more of the machinations of the Interstellar Guilds while following the ongoing adventures of Sunshine as the last survivor of a betrayed mercenary company. She is joined by several new characters that are fantastically done. I am very intrigued not only by the overall arc but with where the writers are going with "Sunshine and Friends"
